"They played extremely well in the first half,'' he said. "We started well but the final 15 minutes before half-time they pressurised the ball well and made life very difficult and we were depending on two very good saves from Pepe Reina.

"But I thought we kept our shape well, kept working at what we were doing, and the longer the game went on the stronger we were getting. It was a good performance from Birmingham and I'm not too disappointed with our performance either.

"We kept to our task well. It's early days for me and there's a lot of new players coming into the team trying to come to terms with what is being asked of them.''

Birmingham are now unbeaten in 17 games at home, and Hodgson expects many more teams to come here and struggle this season.

"This is a very tough place to come and play,'' he said. "They've got a very good home record, they're unbeaten in goodness knows how many games and this is also a game on the back of an international week where we've had a lot of people away.

"My expectations were not that high anyway. It would have been disappointing to lose but I'm not that disappointed to draw.''
    That interview ****ing stinks.

I'd hoped Roy would have said:
    - we should have kept the ball better
    - looked more threatening in the final 3rd,
    - not let B'ham have five clear chances on goal
    - big improvements needed

    etc etc

    Instead he's in ****ing denial.

A bit of honesty wouldn't have gone amiss.

      Pepe
      Johnson Carra Agger Konchesky
      Poulsen Meireles
      Kuyt Gerrard Cole
      Torres

Poulsen as a holding midfielder, Meireles slightly ahead with more forward runs

Thought Konchesky had a good debut, shame he got a knock. Have we got any news on that?

      Pepe is a god
This should be our first choice 11. Unfortunately, it looks like Roy rates Skrtel over Agger and 'Cole in the Hole'.

perhaps he's swearing at the players right now? managers always deflect stuff away from the team. He'll know full well the performance wasn't great.

We don't them criticising players in post game interviews, how on Earth would that help.

FFS lads, it's hardly criticising, it's stating the bleeding obvious.

So you're disappointed that Roy didn't state the obvious to the media after the match?

Aye. Much better than saying he's not too disappointed with the performance and his expectations weren't too high before the game.

The draw wasn't the disappointing thing, the performance was!

Jaysus that was a woeful performance from us, Kuyt was badly missed today and only for Pepe we'd have being whipped again a la man city.
I've made up my mind on Johnson, he's ****e, FFS Roy get Kelly in there.
Skrtel is not good enough, he's not half the defender that Agger is.
I was impressed by Konchesky, seems to be a solid enough player who gets the basics right. Disappointing not to see Babel at all, i thought his pace would have caused the Birm defence problems. Lucas must be ****ing like Beckenbauer in training cause it's well beyond me as to why he starts, for a team with our aspirations he's not up to the required standard.
On a positive note RM looks like he'll be a very good addition and as for Pepe

Just watching Steve McMahon on LFCtv now, what a player he was for us, maybe RM could be in the same mould..

We're playing ****e but not getting trounced. We'll find some sort of shape and form over the coming weeks and months and then we'll judge. We might have a horror show or 2 before that though against quality who punish sides in transition like ourselves. For what it's worth I think the scum could be on the slide and we could get something there. A good result against the scum could be a real lift for the team. Not something to base a season on but enough to give the players the feeling that Roy will get it right. Surely Nando's mood will be lifted by the thoughts of coming up against Vidic!

it isnt us he needs to be open and honest with its the players

if you had a boss who slagged you off to everybody would ou want to work for him? no

they have to mange the players and also no manager tends to get the team playing exactly how they want so quickly so maybe they are on course to be where he wants by when he wants.

Two good interviews over on the BBC with Hodgson and Reina.

Both frank and to the point.
