Appointing Roy - A huge mistake

I think the problem was that Rafa being a problem for the owners was becoming a problem for the club including the players. It is hard for people to keep themselves concentrated on the games when there is essentially a civil war raging within the clubs corridors of power. It also can't have helped for him to have been concentrating on so many different strands of how the club was run (even if I think he was mostly in the right with his judgements).Originally posted by Rich View Post
Roy will not make life as uncomfortable for the owners, CEO and Chairman as Rafa obviously was.
I'm not convinced that Roy is the right man for the job but he deserves time before he is definitively judged. He has taken on a very difficult situation and at least he is doing it with a level of dignity."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Totally agree with this. We all know Agger is the natural defender, comfortable on the ball. But, Roy is a manager who has got the best out of average players, and my guess is the only way he does this is by believing in them and playing them. Skrtel looks like a confidence player, and it may just be he is giving him the nod and playing him with carra to get his head up. Who knows, Carra may get a rest if Skrtel starts performing and we may see skrtel and agger at the back.Originally posted by -V- View PostBut I am seriously concerned by him preferring Skrtle to Agger which is just madness. And also the fact that he had Pacheco, Ngog and Babel available to use yesterday and instead of using them he allowed our boring, negative midfield to remain boring and negative. Im not yet convinced that he will address our lack of width and pace
I'll admit, im not overly optimistic about this season, i can see like others the weaknesses of this team. But i do see a man at the helm that can get the best out of these players, and who deserves our support, especially after just 4 league games.

Fair point. Not sure that any manager could guarantee that with the indifferent form of Torres and Gerrard and the weakening of the rest of the squad though.Originally posted by Rich View PostI agree with all you're saying but dignity isn't going to win us games."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

This makes absolutely no sense. What you appear to be saying is that Roy should get no transfer funds because players signed by previous managers who underperformed previously haven't been 'sorted out' by Roy. Of the ones that you name in your first paragraph, they have been shipped out (Aquilani & Riera), are still underperforming (Johnson & Babel), or in fact left several years ago and are therefore completely irrelevant to your argument (CisseOriginally posted by Chewbacca View PostI was talking about £80-100m of net waste over the years. Glen Johnson, Aquilani, Babel, Riera, Cisse and many more who we simply will or have made massive losses on over the years. It'll probably be more if someone can be bothered adding it up.
Yes, Roy hasn't been financially backed but in the 8 competitive games inc. UEFA we've been poor and have better players than the team performance produces. That's not good enough.
I've not seen anything from Roy to suggest it'll improve and I for one wouldn't give him a penny until he gets more out of his present team first. He needs to earn his cheque book.
The manager motivates and picks the team/tactics/subs etc... and so far Roy has under produced hence my thread.
I like the guy as a person, he's just not good enough. Same goes for Johnson, Kuyt, Jovanovic and Babel who add nothing to our team except misery and mistakes. Kuyt does add hard work but that means jack if you don't score, don't assist, can't beat a man and have no first touch.
Also, for all you people who slate our current owners, the club would haven't been where it is if "market stall business equivalent", David Moores, hadn't done such a terrible job with our club in the first place. It's funny how people how forget who he appointed as managers and what a dreadful job he did of turning us into a global business (Man Utd being the comparative from 1990+).
). In your view, Roy should, in about three months and about eight competitive games, have sorted out years worth of ****, and an entire season of underperforming last year under Rafa.
You then mention Johnson (again - signed by Rafa), Kuyt (signed by Rafa), Jovanovic (signed by Rafa) and Babel (signed by Rafa) as examples of players that aren't good enough in Roy's team. Do you see a link here? Is it dawning on you that Roy is still dealing with Rafa's team, and until he's had chance to put his own mark on things, it's just ridiculous to pass judgement on him?
If that's the basis of your argument, then you really don't understand much of anything.

FFS......what a wank thread to start.
roy has had practically no time to stamp his authority on the squad.
no time to put into practice his formations and his tactics.
no time to get all his squad together without suspensions / injuries / internationals to interfere.
poulsen came with no fitness- raul came with little fitness - torres still recovering from 2 operations and a world cup this summer - cole been suspended after 45 mins prem football - a left back problem only just fixed with konchesky arriving - a team so low on confidence after last season he has to rebuild - it all adds up and if people are going to come on here and spout utter ****e about roy being ****e and the root of all problem etc . . . . .then it embarrasses the hell out of me to say i am a die hard lfc fan.
we WILL improve with time - we WILL get better once ROYS team takes to the pitch. a couple of wins WILL up confidence - we are not going to be world beaters till the yanks **** off granted but dont come on here spouting unfounded ****e cause i cant be ****ed with it anymore!People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Pepe Reina has told supporters to be realistic over Liverpool's prospects of challenging for silverware this season, admitting it might be difficult to reclaim a UEFA Champions League place.
The Reds would appear to be in a transitional period after appointing Roy Hodgson as Rafa Benitez's replacement over the summer, with the new manager bringing in several new players before the transfer deadline.
Uncertainty continues to surround the long-term ownership of the club and Hodgson does not believe Liverpool can start thinking about winning the title until this matter is resolved.
On the pitch, Liverpool have made a slow start to the new campaign with just five points from their opening for games, but Reina believes fans must be patient.
Having finished seventh last term, Reina is not sure that fans can necessarily expect a return to the top four.
"We have to make sure that people don't think of winning the league or being in the top four already at this moment," said the goalkeeper, who starred in Sunday's goalless stalemate against Birmingham.
"It is going to take a while. We have got to get used to the new players and then the system.
"There are many good teams and our target is to be up there but we have to be realistic.
"Is a Champions League spot realistic this season? I don't know. We will find out at the end of the season what we can achieve.
"Of course, we have to challenge for being up there. Maybe it will take a while."
Concentrate
Reina does not believe Liverpool can afford to look too far ahead and should only be focused on the next game, against Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Spaniard added: "No-one has patience nowadays. We are just asking for a little bit.
"We did not spend much money and in football to compete with the others sometimes it is important to do it.
"We couldn't. We sold some players and we used the money for buying some others.
"It's going to be like this for a little while until we sort out the (owners) situation.
"All we believe is that we have to win the next game and don't think about the end of the season.
"We just have to concentrate on the next game and take it from there.
"April and May is the time to talk about targets."
Konchesky
Liverpool will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about in continental competition in midweek and Hodgson has been boosted by the news that Paul Konchesky should be fit.
The left-back made his debut against Birmingham before being substituted with a knock late on, but he is expected to face the Romanians at Anfield.
Hodgson told the club's official website: "He hasn't played for a couple of weeks and he started to feel his hamstring a little bit so we took him off as a precaution and put Daniel Agger on.
"I thought he did well in his first game for us. He was very competent and it bodes well
never a truer word said . . . . . . . .peopel should listen to pepe and take his advice . time and patience is what is needed by some fans.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

FFS what is the matter with some of you miserable cunts. ****ing pisses me off some of the ****e people post on here getting sick of reading it.
Hodgson has had barely a few games in charge and as pointed out in the above post not everyone is fit and some are missing, vitally important players to the team and the teams' shape.
The team NEEDS time to gel and for all the players to get to know one another. The blame should be firmly pointed at the cunts who own this club, not Hodgson FFS. Yes the players can do more but it is new for them and it will take time, yes that's right....time and patience something we as fans should be giving them right now and something some of us are struggling to do.
Liverpool fans, some of you are a disgrace to this club and it's followers and you know who you are, the same miserable, negative ****s that post on here on a daily basis you should bow your head in shame.
No doubt the negative posters on here will always have something to whinge about you bunch of ****ing fart sacks.

You say it's the same negative posters and all that, but I bet a lot of the people not happy with Hodgson are those who resolutely stuck behind Benitez. Me for one, and I'm generally anything but miserable and negative (or a **** either for that matter
).
I'm by no means writing Hodgson off and will of course give him time, but SO FAR I've seen absolutely nothing from him that inspires me, and makes me believe he will do a good job.
I hope I'm 100% wrong I really do.
Plus, I bet a lot of the same people moaning about others writing Hodgson off after 5 minutes, are also writing Jovanovic off after the same amount of time. I can name at least one person who is doing so.
We're all ****ing hypocrites I guess is what I'm trying to say
