    Johnson vs. Kelly

I've seen alot of people calling for Kelly to be played at RB instead of GJ or GJ being moved to right wing and Kelly playing right back.
And of course some, like me think that GJ is capable enough and Kelly isn't quite there yet, I thought id give it is on thread for people to discuss instead of it being brought up in bit parts

I don't think Johnson is a good enough defender I really don't, he is very good at getting forward though.

He is too sloppy as a defender, he's quick but not good enough. ****s around with the ball too much, can't head the ball which is imperative as a defender.

Not a particularly great tackler either.

      Needs a haircut.

I'd stick Kelly in there tbh, he'll be a far better player than Johnson will be, he's a big cunt too.

Can cross just as good as Johnson can.

He defends better than Johnson does.

He looks harder than Johnson and knows when to tackle.

If I can think of anything else I'll add it in.

Glen Johnson all the way for me. Kelly will make it IMO but I don't want him to suffer like Insua did last year. Kelly will make mistakes as he's still learning and the problem when young fullbacks make mistakes in the top flight is they get to read about them on the back page. I think he'll do well for us but he still needs to be eased into it.

            I dunno you know mate,

Kelly looks far more composed on the ball than Insua does so I wouldn't be afraid to bang him in the team if I was the boss.......but I'm not!

If you look at Johnny Evans and the young twin cunt at Utd they're both young lads and haven't had too much of a problem settling in. Kelly has looked good when he's played, he's quick as well for a defender and for a big lad, Inusa was a slug and was definietley thrown in the deep end for us which didn't help.

You're right in that if he was to make **** ups then the whole world would see it and the press would have a field day.

I'd still take a risk with him, I only think Johnson is being played because he has more experience. He needs to improve otherwise Kelly will be nabbing his place soon.

I agree he's looked good when he's played but he won't keep a regular England fullback out of the side any time soon IMO. Used sparingly this season his game should keep improving and he'll remain hungry for more 1st team football.

Johnson is excellent at going forward, he has a bit of skill and pace and that can cause problems for the opposition however he needs to sort his defending out, this is why I feel Chelsea sacked him off.

Trying skillful things and losing the ball whilst in midfield is fine and you could possibly get away with it but doing it in defence is another thing though, there is a lot more pressure on defenders and if you **** up in defence then you're proper screwed.

I'm confident Johnson can work on it but he needs to get his act together though, if he's sloppy on Sunday and gives away a free kick in a dangerous area then it could seriously punish us and drop us right in the ****. He needs to be more careful in the tackle, watch the ball instead of the player and execute the tackle perfectly, he could learn a lot by watching Carragher.

This is where I think Kelly is better, the lad hasn't played much but he's shown enough about him to suggest he has real potential. We haven't had anyone come through the ranks in a long time and I believe Kelly will make it.

Mind you I said the same thing about Plessis and look where he is now.

You should have kept that one to yourself. You've lost any credability you may have had in one statement there

One is first choice full back for England. The other doesn't even start for the under 21's.

Kelly will make it here if given the chance, but he is not a better right full back than Glen Johnson.

See that Steau goalscorer run between Kelly and Krygiakos last night? Ever seen the opposition do that when Johnson has played?

Not one goal has been scored from down our right hand side this season and I can't remember last time Johnson cost us a game other than Arsenal at Anfield last year which was ages a go. He ain't as bad as people make out.
                    Forwards.......

All that said, Johnson was poor against Birmingham and needs to do better.

He will be in time though mate.

Johnson can be sloppy and careless and in most instances is, you need to watch him a bit more carefully Danny as you must be watching someone different to me.

As for no goals being conceded from the right it's not a fair argument really as the whole defence has improved over the last few games and we haven't conceded as much as we have been during the first few matches, that all can't be down to Johnson.

Anyway personally I don't believe he is good enough as a right back simply because he is too attack minded and is not good enough to cover his arse when he drops himself in the ****.

I hope he proves me wrong though and I will continue to support him all the way.

Johnson is attack minded. You can ask him to sit but you take a massive outlet away from our team. When a full back gets forward it's up to the team to compensate and make sure we don't get caught out.
