It's probably the only position on the field where we have two really useful players fighting for one place

Johnson went to Chelsea to early in his career and stagnated and I think has been a bit of a late developer. I think Hodgson will teach him a lot when it comes to defending.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I'd say we're just as strong at LB. Obviously Aurelio can't be relied upon due to his injuries, but these two also need to prove they are over their injury problems.

Kelly is still the better defender. Forget the goal Johnson scored for a moment. Almost every cross from the right side he couldnt stop. If it wasnt for Skrtel intercepting the crosses in we'd be in serious trouble. He also forgets often that he's a rightback and is in central defense area often. There were a few times where the chelsea players had plenty of room to move around because he was either standing next to Skrtel or was not where he should be.

He should be used as a right winger. Not a right back. Kelly is much better at stopping people before they get a cross in. He's class.

He's still not match fit. The amount of crosses coming in from his side and his positioning at times was very poor in that second half but we weren't punished and he scored a beauty, that's all the history books will say.

Fitness will come with a run of games. Kelly's time will come but it's not now when we've got England's number 1 right back on our books.

Kelly doesn't have the same ability as Johnson going forward. Our tactics should revolve around letting him go forward like he has done today even though there would be gaps at the back.
              Are we winning?

                What the ****?!

Johnson had a near faultless 1st half - his only mistake was when he let Malouda in in 1st half stoppage time and then Malouda dived to win a free kick. Otherwise immaculate.

Tested big time 2nd half down what is by far their strongest side, beaten a few times but generally coped with everything they threw at him. And then scored a wonder goal. He's a very good RB.

I love both of them! Great options to have.

As I've always said, Johnson is class, love the guy.

There are many full-backs that can attack like he does, but very few who put the ball in the back of the net like he did.
Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

First post match in a Johnson thread after he's just received the MOTM award, and to do what? Criticize him again.

That's probably the first poor defensive performance Johnson has had had since Kenny took charge and I didn't see too many threads bumped after all his solid displays.

Poor is probably a bit harsh too as Chelsea focused all their play down the left second half and Johnson was often left isolated. Kuyt was unusually poor which didn't help matters much.

Don't think he had a great game defensively, but he didn't have a bad one and that goal was out of this world.

Find this "poor" talk staggering, he was overloaded a few times and got done but we were always gonna come under pressure and that is their strongest side. Had a faultless 1st half and 2nd half did okay and scored a wonder goal winner.

He could have did better on a few occasions and Chelsea were having a lot of joy down that wing, but he didn't make many glaring mistakes. FB's get beat by their men all the time, some are just unfortunate enough to get it highlighted every time they do.

He is the only defender in the PL who can score that type of goal. He has so much composure when he gets into the box. Great finish!!!
