Aye. I wanted to see Maxi given a chance but he's totally wasted it. He's a good player but it seems he's not suited to this league. I also think his heart's not in it. He's seen all his mates flogged, the manager who signed him got the boot, and now he's stuck here. Put **** all effort in yesterday. He showed promise last season but this time round he's been diabolical...offering absolutely nothing. He'll be gone in January. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Roy is playing 4-2-3-1 without attacking fullbacks. That is probably why we play so narrow. Don't have a clue who will create the width in a 4-2-3-1 when the fullbacks stay back.Originally posted by dww View PostTo be honest while, I hope it was only a tactic used out of fear of United, I thought in some ways the Meireles in front of Gerrard plan worked quite well - it certainly encouraged Gerrard to keep the ball moving with short passes. The problem, as it has been throughout the Hodgson reign so far, was that the wide players were all too narrow and the central midfield too deep. I think giving the midfielders an out ball on at least one wing would allow them to come forward.
Maxi was particularly pointless in that game. Not sure why Roy seems obsessed with making the wide players come inside - it really hampers our progress and stops a lot of counter attacks before they get going.
We are also very passive in our pressing game. It's not like we hunt them down to win the ball back.
We have now played a few competitive games with Roy as manager and I have still not seen a pattern of how Roy want us to play. No sign of a game plan at all.
Glimpses for a few minutes is really all we got so far.Stop the cyberhate

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

Must admit I thought the same yesterday. We had some spells when we kept the ball quite nicely, certainly better than a lot of the hoofing we've seen lately, but it was just passing for passing's sake. We did little or nothing with it. There is no discernible pattern of play as far as I can see.Originally posted by Arn View PostRoy is playing 4-2-3-1 without attacking fullbacks. That is probably why we play so narrow. Yes, we are very passive and it's really, really annoying, and not what I expected at all from a manager renowned for having hard working, defensively sound mentality. We don't close down at all in the opposition half, and only seem to make a half-hearted attempt in our own half.Originally posted by Arn View PostRoy is playing 4-2-3-1 without attacking fullbacks. Roy hasnt won an away game in the league for 13 months now has he? Not being funny but even if u had a really **** team to manage (which fulham werent) you'd expect to fluke at least a win or two.
Its shocking and the majority of our play was dire as it has been against decent opposition so far. People thought we needed a change of manager but i have no faith in roy, at the most optimistic we've changed like for like, in reality we've got a less capable manager.
Im sure that anyone on here couldve managed fulham or lfc to 1 away win in a year. We thought it was bad last season.... Anyway back to the beach, lovely here in greece this time of year

We're a complete shambles at the moment. I don't know how we got back into that game but if we managed to hold out it would've been daylight robbery. The whole teams a wreck bar Gerrard and Torres (Mereiles looks a competent footballer too).
I was hoping Hodgson could turn things around but he's draining the side of any creativity and positive approach.
I'm not one for tactics and formations, more just general play of each individual footballer out there and there's no sparkle, no dynamism, they look heavy legged, on their heels instead of on their toes. It's soul destroying.

At the end of the day, we could easily have won that game yesterday. Fergiescum saying "it could have been 10-0 and next thing we're at 2-2" is a f*cking joke. I didn't have ManUre in my top4 at the end of the season and still don't (nor us either). They are on the slide but results like yesterday will prolong the delusion for a while longer.Substance > Style

His away record with Fulham was a concern when he joined us, but to be fair to him, the away games we have had so far have been very, very tough ones.

I was hoping that Roy would bring a siege mentality to the club and the new manager would instill belief in our players and the gloom somewhat be lifted. Not sure Roy can do that to be honest.

No Heart!!
The main reason we lost this game is because united wanted it more. I actually believe we have the better team player for player but unfortunately our team lacks any real heart. United players play like they are playing to keep their place in the team. Most of our players play like they have a god given right to be out there. There was such a lack of urgency to win this game it was shocking. Especially in the first half. United didn't even have to play well to win the game and lets be honest the 3-2 scoreline was kind to us.
As a team we were a shambles and there we some terrible individual performances. Torres was shocking once again. I cant remember the last time I seen him actually sprint? All strikers go through lean spells but sometimes that is because they are trying too hard. That is not the case for Torres. If any other player was playing the way he has this season they would be getting slaughtered. I like Torres but he needs to kop on fast and stop all this sulking and moaning. I wonder if Roy has the balls to drop him for the Sunderland game? Maybe he should start against Northampton mid week to get him going (if he is bothered).
Gerard and Meireles were the only ones to come out with any credit for that game. The rest were just shocking.
I cant see anything changing for a long time to come. Its going to be a very long and painful season to watch. The best we can hope for is a decent run in one of the cup competitions as anyone can win over 90 minutes on the day.
Either way YNWA

Don't know if this is the right place to bring this up, or if it's been done before;
Is there a case for playing a Roy Evans-style 3-5-2 in games like this with Agger, Skrtel and Carra in the middle of defence, Johnson more of a right wing-back and Konchesky or Aurelio left wing back. This helps cover for Johnson and Konch's defensive frailties.
Then you could have Poulsen and Meireles in centre mid, with Gerrard and Cole further forward supporting Torres.
Just a thought
