If Roy isn't man enough to drop a player because of who he is then he should walk as soon as possible.

Roy can't continue to play Carra only because he is Carra. He must drop him when he is out of form and don't deserve to play just as everyone else. You can't have one rule for him and another for the rest.

    It simply won't work.

Carra doesn't deserve his place right now. Roy, drop him or walk.

One more point. Carra shouldn't get a new deal. He doesn't deserve one. We need better players than him in central defense.

He is a Liverpool legend but you can't give a player a new deal only because of that.

I've been saying this for a long, long time now. Carragher has aged really badly over the last few seasons. He should be a squad player now. The only problem is Skrtel is even worse! Agger is our only top class defender and we're using him as a substitute LB now

We miss Hyypia so, so badly it's untrue. We at least need a dominant defender like him bringing in ASAP. Kyriagos is the nearest we've got right now, but he's too limited.

I could even put forward a case for Agger and Kyriagos being our best CB pairing at the moment!

          Oh how low we've sunk

I've been thinking the same recently. Kyrgiakos is no slower than Carragher, he's more dominant in the air (something we've lacked since Hyypia went), and Agger is our best centre half.

Love Carragher but he can't start week in, week out

I have no faith in Hodgson after reading that. He's out of his depth.

At this moment I'd be happy to see that combination, Agger's technique and finess to compensate for the Greek's lack of it, as well as adding that much needed aerial dominance. I know many are keen to write off Kyrgiakos or say that he's not good enough, but the thing is he gets the job done, when you look at last season he surprised a lot of us, and very seldom let us down despite the team around him being unstable.

He might not be the most gracious but defending isn't always about that. Carragher's been looking weaker and hasn't played to the required level since last season, he's a great guy so we have to ease him out with respect, but I think it's a step in the right direction.

Although, more importantly to me, I have very little, to no faith in Skrtel anymore due to his performances recently. I don't think he's a poor player like some others on here think, although I don't think he's upto doing what we need and at very least he needs to be replaced by Agger, it's madness that Agger isn't playing as a starting cenre half at the moment.

We need our CBs to be imposing and, at the moment, they seem to be floundering, not imposing.

                    Have to agree.

Agger isn't aggressive enough, Carra can be aggressive when he wants to be but he made it far too easy for Berbatov to head in the winner, didn't even attempt to put him off, Skrtel is either too aggressive or not aggressive enough - he needs to get the balance.

I see a few people suggesting the Greek gets drafted in, it's not a bad idea in fairness...maybe not just yet but if our centre backs continue defending poorly then who knows.

Our full-backs need to majorly up their game too. ****ing let about 100 crosses come in against United - it was very, very poor.

Don't know why people want Kyrgiakos in after seeing him against Steau. He made two mistakes and one led to a goal, the other should have done. Decent player but worse that both Carra and Skrtel. Only benefit is he's class in the air.

thats the thing though - both the united but even worse the birmingham game, every single ball into the box caused us problems and panic stations....i think a lot of people are thinking that, throwing in kyriakos will sort out this issue - it does then create another issue with anyone with half a yard of pace doing him

I think carra still has plenty to offer but he got bullied by berbatov and i think the top strikers in the league are too quick and strong for him now, and for me i like skrtel but he hasn't pushed on/developed how i was hoping - so for this season I am happy to see how he pushes on, but if there is no significant improvement then next year, if we have new owners, then yeah i'd be looking at a 'beast' of cb to partner agger with carra and hopefully wilson stepping up as the back ups and skrtel moved on with the aging greek.

I'd love someone in the mould of Walter Samuel - a big, aggressive animal. Who though is another matter.

I think it would be a huge mistake to drop him. He is a talisman type figure along with the rest of the teams spine.

                            Pepe, Carra, Gerrard and Torres.

I dont think many liverpool fans would want a team without these 4 in it for the big games. If he is to be replaced, as Shaggy says, it will have to be a ready made replacement. Big name coming in, that could instantly do a job
                            *Except Michael, who died.

yeah thats it - who - i really thought skrtel would become that man - he looks like a physco, he defo has a beast in there, but it just hasn't been unleashed - he's been here a few years now, and i'm not critiscing him as such, but do feel this season he really has to push on and start showing the kinda player we all hoped he would become...

On paper, him and agger should be the perfect partnership. it just hasn't come off unfortunatley.

I think clearly we need to splash out on a top CB if and when we come into money.

Start of the season I looked at Carra, Skrtel, Agger and Kyrgiakos and thought we were sorted, especially with Kelly, Ayala and Wilson coming through, not to mention Andre Wisdom a bit further back.

But the start to the season is proving me wrong.
