Is there any chance we could have the equally useful/pointless how many goals the team scored/games the team won with Stevie in each position stat now?

Frankly all the last weeks debate has proved is that there is no concensus on what our best team is or where to play Stevie and that none of us can agree on how we would alter the current team to improve it given our current problems.

I think he has a fair point in saying that not even close to all of those 23 goals were scored as a RM player, I don't see what's wrong with that. It's not pointless or useless, it should make some people have a rethink because some justify Gerrard on the right permanently by saying he scored that many goals from that position. Well he didn't.

You don't have to buy the statistical argument that he'd score more from CM to accept that this whole idea of him scoring 23 from RM is a falsity.

I meant to highlight that these sort of stats in isolation are only useful when viewed in context, in that really only people who agree that Gerrard is better in the middle have taken anything from them. I agree they make the specific point that some other peoples arguments are based on a flawed analysis of the facts, however it gives no insight of itself.

So basically i'm not arguing against the point yourself and CAD are making, in fact I agree. Just that I'm not sure that an individual statistic gives much evidence for anything, and that these figures are themselves open for debate.

The most common argument in is that we did better as a team with Gerrard at right mid (last season) with the no. of goals he personally scored used as an argument that Gerrard was a very effective part of that team and not just the Alonso/Momo were a good CM partnership. I was merely interested to see if this was in anyway backed up by the numbers, even though I would accept all the flaws in the current numbers would be present in the numbers I was looking to see.

Haha, fairplay. I think that a little fact can't hurt in between all the fiction on this forum

The stats for Gerrards goals (By Tomkins) were on RAWK after last season and the conclusive evidence was that Liverpool score more goals when Gerrard is played in central midfield. I still think that a 'three goal a season' defensive center midfield like Alonso/Momo, demands too much from the rest of the offensive/creative forces on the team.

Well it clearly demands too much of the rest of our current team (Gerrard included) at the minute!

I think that the Valencia experience shows that a CM partnership who are not very progressive can work, but it requires much more movement from the front 4 than we have seen this season and for the two CMs to always make themselves available. Too often this season Momo and Xabi haven't provided the platform either in terms of breaking down attacks or retention of possession. Can't see Gerrard solving the second part, but maybe he would the first.

At least it puts to bed all the people who say "He score 23 goals from right midfield last season".

                He didn't!

lets put it this way, he had his best season yet, and he played in various positions and follows the gaffers order...

what strikes me more is the number of goals he scored in away matches last season, and some of them key away games such as Everton, Newcastle and Chelsea.
