Ah yeah, Josemi. I knew who he was but I just couldn't remember his name. And Ferri was Houllier's first buy.

In that company Poulsen isn't too bad.

Mind you, there were extenuating circumstances with the other two. Perhaps Poulsen is Hodgson's dressing room snitch. That's fine by me so long as Hodgson (a) makes sure Poulsen never makes it on to the pitch and (b) repays Poulsen's transfer fee out if his payoff.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

If so it's only fair to remember who Houllier's and Benitez's first buys* were.

      * In other words I can't remember who they were but I do remember they were both bloody awful.
The thing is though that one of the arguments made by those who wanted Roy was that his experience in the PL would prevent him needing these sort of bedding in buys as he adapted to the league. In particular I remember BobTheCharmer raising this point as a criticism of the likes of Pellegrini as an argument for an English manager (and IIRC Roy in particular).

I'd also say that Poulsen is worse than the likes of Nunez as his impact has been to drag the entire team backwards as he plays in such a key position. He also plays a lot more than the likes of Ferri ever did.

It's like you read my mind. And save me the trouble of explaining myself.

It sickens me to see him play ahead of Lucas.

Until people found out he was barely any quicker than Ferri or Poulsen.

It's a bit harsh on Lucas though.

can't believe roy managed to dig up a cm people seem to hate even more.

thing i hate about the lucas thing is that h seems childlike. completely positive, humble and almost carefree. seems like a really great guy and i feel really bad when the red mist descends and i hurl abuse at the tv.

I heard on the grapevine that he is thinking of bringing in Robbie Savage in the January transfer window to do the same for Poulsen.

I love everything about lucas apart from his footballing ability.

Home - Blackpool - 23 out of 26 successful passes and not a single one close to the opposition penalty area. Four won tackles and subbed at the 60 min.

Home - Sunderland - 16 out of 19 successful passes and only five passes that went past the halfway line. Three won tackles and subbed at the 62 min.

Away - Man Utd - 62 out of 65 successful passes and yet not a single one close to the opposition penalty area. Three won tackles and subbed at the 62 min.

Away - Birmingh. - 40 out of 44 successful passes, and two into the penalty area but the passes are evenly spread over the half way line and seems like he is looking for players. No tackle attempted but one shot. Played with Lucas who was probably holding, but still managed to play the occasional forward pass and spread play to either wing. Subbed at the 62 min.

Home - WBA - 56 out of 61 pass successful and not a single one close to the opposition penalty area, however passed the ball forward on either wing and is spreading the play a bit. Three won tackles and no shot. Subbed at the 60 min.

Sticks out for me that in the last two games Poulsen is holding and is unbelievably defensive in that role, sits way too back, but he is more involved in the other games, although still with only one shot in all these games. I would like him to come a bit more forward with ball and press a bit higher, maybe he is being limited somewhat by Roy's instructions, he is always subbed at the 60 min mark, often to be replaced by a striker or a wide player.
I think that is the crunch of it... for the danish national team and for his earlier clubs he has always played deep passes, long passes switching sides etc. so it can only be that.

Just yesterday during Denmark's defeat at portugal he played loads of long deep passes seeking the wing - so it can only be Roy asking him to play that way.

But he did make a terrible mistake yesterday, and so did 2 other players leaving portugal with 3 goals.

And btw. congratulations to all for finding their scapegoat to blame everything on, must be nice for those who had to spend all of last season doing the same with Lucas...

The whole team and mentality really needs to be focus not just one player although it seems easier to bandwagon on...
