Shelvey has a lot of work to do to improve and adapt to the top flight, hopefully he does.

Shelvey hasn't learnt to run. I know that sounds funny but the way you run can alter your speed and acceleration massively. Watch him and you will see his arms flap by his sides which causes drag.

I thought he looked pretty decent yesterday, was always looking for the ball, some nice passing and was quite attacking minded. Don't think he is as slow as is being made out even if he isn't Linford Christie.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He said himself in an interview that he was slow.

The problem is he has to beat the same man about 3 times cos they just walk back & re-tackle him cos he's barely moved away from them.
              3rd place. Worst champions ever.

if were lucky he might turn out to be half as good as alonso.

Ok he's 19 so far from the finished product and this isn't meant to be critical of him but before he arrived I was lead to believe he was a 'similar' player to a Gerrard however I just can't see it. And here's why...

Gerrard at the same age had terrible injury problems but was obviously an athlete - fast over the ground, quick to turn, and powerful. He'd not fully grown but there was something there you could see.

Shelvey IMO isn't in the same class when it comes to athleticism - he's neither fast or quick to turn, and doesn't appear to have that explosive quality which was apparent in Gerrard. This might change but I'm doubtful it will, usually you can't radically change a players athleticism unless they're carrying excess weight and he doesn't look like he is.

Now the good news - I think we've not got a Gerrard on our hands but potentially a Huddlestone/Alonso/Pirlo- type player, or potentially so. He looks like he has all the ability to play the deep playmaker role. Good with the ball at his feet, positive, passing ability, and strong. I wonder whether he should start looking at those type of players and modifying his game accordingly.

                      Just my opinion...

                      Mine too

If he is moved in more centralized midfield role he could turn into a decent player but does not have physical abilities nor speed to be ever compared to Stevie.

That said, I think he is technically very solid and if continue to work on his passing long and short term range, shooting (including corners and free kicks)and reading the game he may be a very good footballer.

whilst he is under the grossly incompetent ****, Shelvey along with every other player will suffer a serious loss of form

something bizarre happened the day we signed him.

there was an article on the website where a coach from charlton was talking about him. this guy was saying that he had very good technical ability, good vision passing the was an attacking player who would do very well.

however, he went on to say that he wasnt the quickest but his game had other things to make up for the lack of pace.

funny thing was half an hour later the quote about him having no pace had been removed from the site.

its like they were trying to hide the fact that he's slow.

I'll be retired by the time they finished.

Like with anything, if you lack in one area you have to make up for it in other ways.

                                for instances:

If you're dull as dishwater, but good looking, you'll still pull a top bird.
If you're funny as **** and good personality, but ugly, you'll still pull a top bird.

If you're average at everything, you'll get an average bird.

If you are poor in one area, but average in others, well you're starting to push it now............
                                Forwards.......
