Might have been posted elsewhere, but everyone who had been hoping for Pellegrini can know that in all likelihood that ship has sailed. He's agreed a deal in principal to sign a 3 year deal with Malaga. Great, they have some better attackers and midfielders than us as well as a better manager.

I'm sure I've read somewhere some time ago that Rafa had tied some kind of deal with them as regards to youngsters exchange or something of the sort. Not sure if that was part of the Josemi deal or not.

Josemi left to Villarreal. Anyhow, with their Arab owners and Pellegrini they should be pretty good.

If there is a deal in place we should propose a switch, give them Roy. haha

EDIT: I'm an idiot. You meant when we signed Josemi...

Yep, when we signed him and thereafter, I remember Rafa looking for a centre back/defensive midfielder and he was allegedly scouting an up and coming talent from Malaga. Then there was talk of some kind of deal with them. That might be another club though, but it was really early into Rafa's reign.

Well this appointment looks perfect for everyone. When Hodgson invariably quits or sacks he can blame Rafa, the owners who know nothing against football, and Commolli with his non-British way of doing things.

The press gets something to attack us with and championing Hodgson for the English managers post, they know they can brutually attack him after a miserable Euro 2012 or World Cup 2014 campaign.

We will most probably and hopefully get a good promising manager who will play decent football. Fat Sam and Ferguson and Moyes will start hating us and making snide remarks about our manager, which means that we are doing well on the pitch.

I'm not criticising him in anyway but it appeared as though it was through gritted teeth
to be honest I think Roy gives all his interviews through gritted teeth, or it certainly looks that way.

I just think that he is not a natural in front of the cameras as some others are. He could be given the funniest line in the world and would still get it wrong.

Some people have it. others dont.

I wonder what the reaction would be if Roy produced a list like Rafa did on a fellow manager...

the difference between Rafa and Roy is that Rafa is co(cky)nfident and relaxed whereas Roy seems like he is sitting on a pin cushion scatching his head, rubbing his chin nervous about putting his foot in it.

I feel for Roy, but I think he has to move on.

Don't know what to make of this. My imagination might be running too much, unless he's doing an advert for ASDA.

LIVERPOOL: ROY HODGSON - I AM STILL IN CHARGE
                      Story Image

Hodgson welcomed the appointment of Comolli

                      Thursday November 4,2010
                      By Paul Joyce

ROY HODGSON has maintained he will have the final say on who Liverpool buy despite seeing Damien Comolli appointed as the club’s director of football.

Comolli will help oversee recruitment of new talent after being brought in by new owner John W Henry in a radical change of emphasis at Anfield which copies the management style at Henry’s other sporting franchise, the Boston Red Sox.

Frenchman Comolli, 38, occupied a similar role at Tottenham and helped bring in Gareth Bale and Dimitar Berbatov, but he also clashed with managers Martin Jol and Juande Ramos before being sacked in 2008.

Hodgson welcomed the appointment, but acknowledged the director of football model has led to conflict over transfers at others clubs. He insisted he still expected to make the final decision on any signings. I had the final say at Fulham and I would think that will be the case still

Roy Hodgson confident on having the final say

“As far as I know, there has never been a sporting director who had a large input on team selection and who plays,” said Hodgson, whose side face Napoli in the Europa League at Anfield tonight.

“It is on transfers, recruitment, where that [conflict] can come about. I had the final say at Fulham and I would think that will be the case still, yes.

“We will have to wait and see but there is no reason for me not to think that.”

Comolli resigned as sporting director at St Etienne to be part of Henry’s new management structure at Liverpool.

Tottenham abandoned the director of football model after Comolli’s exit and have been reinvigorated under Harry Redknapp, but Hodgson believes Liverpool fans should back the move.

“I think the fans welcome the new owners and I believe they will welcome a new structure,” he said. “I don’t think they liked the Gillett and Hicks set-up, where the owners were always absent.”

Dont really feel its anything to do with feeling confident (except hes not confident in the story hes telling)

More crap from Dodgson. He's hinting at having a say in the appointment of Comolli. Or maybe it's the Official site which is trying to put a spin on things?

Roy Hodgson believes the appointment of Damien Comolli can improve player recruitment at all levels of the club.

The Frenchman, who has previously held senior roles at Arsenal, Tottenham and Saint-Etienne, was announced as the club's new Director of Football Strategy on Wednesday.

Hodgson has welcomed the news and expects his new colleague to help attract talent both for the present and the future.

"The matter of player recruitment is of vital importance to clubs today," said Hodgson. "It becomes more important every year. And in Damien Comolli we have a person who has great experience at player recruitment.

"He'll have to look very carefully at the players who are being identified and recruited for the reserve team and Academy as well.

"If it's true that Gareth Bale is a player he spotted and brought through then we'll be happy if he can produce one or two more of them for us!"

One area in which Hodgson believes there needs to be an improvement is the depth of his squad.

The boss has been delighted with how the likes of Jay Spearing have risen to the challenge of playing regular first-team football - but there is no denying he would like more options.

"I'm not sure our strength in depth is as good as it needs to be and that will be a very important conversation we'll be having in the coming days: what can be done to make our squad a bit stronger than it is?" said Hodgson.

"If you compare us to some of the squads we'd like to be competing against, theirs go a bit deeper.

"But those who have been thrown in have kept our heads above water. Take a guy like Jay Spearing. I think he's played in every single Europa League game so far. It's good to know that people like that are getting a chance to show what they can do and play regular football."

The appointment of Comolli is one of the first major moves by NESV principal owner John Henry and chairman Thomas Werner since their company took over the club.

Hodgson added: "They want a management team that's going to help them rebuild the club to some extent.

"The fact they've moved so quickly to get Damien in after speaking to me about it a week ago shows how intent they are to get things right.

"The owners are very interesting people. Every discussion you have with them is a pleasurable one because they have good questions and very clear ideas. They listen to what you have to say and I've been more than impressed.

"John and Tom have taken an enormous interest and that can only be to our benefit because we need people to look into this club. It's a great club and it'll be a great club in the future, that's for sure - but it needs people like John and Tom to look at where, if anywhere, we've been going wrong.

"They understand that you don't wave magic wands in sport. It's going to take time but they are determined to get things right as quickly as possible. The quicker the better."
The quicker you're sacked, the better.
