Who fits that 'no huge risk' bill though?

I think we have to see the next appointment as at least as important in terms of what we want to build towards. Coyle would certainly state that we want long term to be an attacking team who pass the ball. Given the youth setup we have invested in then that seems like a start at least.

I'd say it is a good time to take a risk on an attacking manager. Spurs are doing well but can't defend for toffee and Bolton are surprising teams merely by going at them with the ball on the deck.

I agree - we can't afford another **** up appointment. Another year of descent and we will be firmly beneath Spurs, City, Arsenal, Utd and Chelsea. Saying that, whoever we appoint will be a risk in some sense - who could we realistically bring in that has proven himself successful at a top Premiership club? Mourinho? Never happen. Rafa? Can't see the owners taking the chance given his previous with figures of authority.

We're going to have to take a risk on someone like Villas Boas, Deschamps, or Klopp. And if we're talking about those people then it's not a huge leap before you come to Coyle. He's a bright, up coming manager who plays attractive football, and who has experience in the premiership. He has very much over achieved at every club he's been at.

My point is this: we can't afford to **** up with the next manager, but whoever we bring in will constitute a risk (in one form or another).

We're not dissimiliar to Valencia when Rafa took over there (stature wise - probably less on current form) - is Coyle's experience that much worse than Benitez had before he got one of the top jobs in Spain? I'm thinking Extremadura and Tenerife - no bigger than Bolton and Burnley really are they?

I just don't get that flavour of the month vibe from Coyle - I remember that cup run with Burnley and the football they played was astonishing for what they were.

I have never come across a manager that literally has a comment in the press every day and each one gets worse and worse, even Mourinho who loves the sound of his own voice pales in comparison to Roy's media spouts. IMO its Roy trying to justify his role and make lame attempts to appeal to the fans. He really hasn't done himself any favours by saying some of the cringeworthy tripe he has come out with.

He really needs to go, but if he is here he needs to shut the **** up and concentrate on getting us to actually play good football and win games, before we fall so far behind that the damage to the club is permanent.

Normally I would say that appointing a very young manager who has limited experience would be a risk because the players might not respect him but to be honest I think its just a big a risk appointing someone who is too old.

Owen Coyle (and im speaking from first hand experience) is someone who people immediately respect because he treats everyone else with respect. The reason he is turning into such a great man manager is because he talks to players on their level and doesn't talk down to them. He has the ability to make average players feel great about themselves and make them raise their game. He has a huge amount of drive and energy and that helps him keep his players on high morale.
It sounds simple enough but really it takes a certain type of personality, intelligence and drive to do what he does.

I would be quite happy to take a punt on Coyle because I think the players would love his energy and respond to it very well. He could get us to go back to playing the Liverpool way

How did you meet Coyle?

Met him and spoken to him on a few occasions while he was playing and coaching up here in Scotland. Iv watched him coaching too and spoken to players who played with him and played under him. He's a great guy and a local legend where I am.

I forget sometimes that he's actually in his mid-forties because he played on for so long and retired quite late
