Rafa's football was also the type of football that made us great in the 70 and through most of the 80's

Right now as far as i'm concerned it's an impossibility, it's just how i feel, it would be such a radical decision to make by the new owners and i don't see it happening at all, no way, would love it, but not going to happen i'm afraid.

well anything is better than the current manager for sure, and Rafa certainly would.

But we have to disagree about the entertainment part of Rafa's tactics

Rafa made us the most feared and respected team in european football. When the two cunts took over we started to slide. Broken promises and making a profit in the transfer windows is what cost us. Before anyone says they yanks bought Torres and co they were bought with money loaned from the bank.

How is see it too- but theyd get at least half of us proper on side by re-employing him & backing him fully politically & financially. Now, where's that Rafatollah pic?

When it clicked, it really clicked & we purred. More investment would mean more flair payers & that happening more often.

When it didnt, it was pretty dry, I agree. But then we have Bodge & Houllier to compare him to even then...

well fear no. 1 would be a return to the football of the Houllier days. The footy played under Rafa was far better, no doubt about it, but IMO it was still a risk-free system of football and control was far more important than creativity. And tbh. I don't understand the comparison to our domination era (not made by you), we offered far more back then.

in the 70's and 80's we often just ground teams down into submission and we did that through control, very much the same way we often did under Rafa. People seem to be under the illusion that how we played in 87/88 was the same way we had made the club great, it very isn't the case. We were the original crushing machine.

There's some thruth in what you say about control vs. creativity, I agree. I do feel though had Rafa been able to sign more of the high-end players he wanted that the cutting edge wouldve been much more pronounced (relying on the like of Villa & Alves as opposed to just Gerrard & Torres) & we wouldve seen fewer stalemates & more batterings like we gave Villa, Scum & Real.

I agree about the control vs creativity point. Although I think you change the way a game is played and how easy it is to create via control.

In my view the problem was the constant need to sell to buy rather than the failure to attract certain players. We frequently needed numbers of players competing for the first team as much as top end player.

We always seemed to be making sacrifices one way or the other and the only way it would appear we had too many players was if you included the young players bought in to counter act the lack of quality coming through the academy.

Interestingly that comparison can be made to American football. Running with the ball (control the game) vs throwing the ball (creativity within the game).
