Roy Hodgson made a farewell speech to his Liverpool players after their midweek defeat at Blackburn, it has been claimed.

Reports say the "down and emotional" boss told stars it had been a pleasure working with them.

One insider who claims to have been present said: "He said 'I'm sure the owners will want me out after this.

"And he even added 'It's no fun hearing your own fans singing another manager's name every two minutes'."

Hodgson is still expected to be in charge for Sunday's FA Cup clash against deadly rivals Manchester United.

It's also no fun being dicked at places like Blackburn and Stoke, Roy.

If you want fun, go to Alton Towers.

I think it was Gerrard telling Roy that he should put Agger on for the second half and then telling a number of the team some home truths.

                Nicked off RAWK

I’m also uncomfortable with the main focus of the blame pointing right at Hodgson. He has not fulfilled his job – it was his responsibility to come in and sort this out – but I honestly can’t see any manager coming in and fixing things with this current squad.

A bluenose mate of mine texted me after the Wolves game, and after I said all the usual “Hodgson out” ****e, he said something like “some of those players in red were an absolute disgrace”. It got me thinking anyway, about what it must look like through the eyes of someone who isn’t a red – someone who can look past the Hodgson factor and identify what other problems that Hodgson’s incompetence is masking.

But I’m still unclear on what proportion of the blame should be on Hodgson’s shoulders. Sometimes you look at the players, and they’re not closing the opposition down, and you think “****ing what’s wrong with you?”. But then you remember the stories going round about Hodgson specifically asking the players NOT to close down, and you wonder whether the players are following instructions.

You look at Torres, receiving the ball to his feet, then taking a first touch, straight into the frame of the opposition defender. Loses possession, looks at the floor, looks dejected, mutters something, holding his hands out with a expression that makes him look like he doesn’t want to be there. It’s obvious he’s frustrated, but is it just because of the tactics? We would all like to believe that it is, but is there more to it than that? Has he got bored of being at Liverpool, playing with substandard players? These substandard players are actually outperforming him – both in performances and attitude. Has he lost his desire to work hard for the red shirt?

Then there’s Gerrard. He scores a goal against Blackburn, then goes down for the penalty. Commentator starts harping on it always being Gerrard who is carrying Liverpool, as if he’s been the only player who’s played well that night. The truth was different. Gerrard was ****e that night, he looked lost in midfield, didn’t pop up in the right areas, didn’t get a hold of midfield, and he certainly didn’t do a captain’s job of inspiring the players around him. He looks like he’s sulking as well, but he gets away with it because of his past record. If it’s true that he had a hand in the appointment of Hodgson, then he should be running through brick walls for him. He should be setting an example regardless. He’s the captain.

These 2 are our main players, our icons and the players we look to, to make things happen. They should be setting the example. It’s difficult to blame the other players around them – most of them are at least putting the effort in, but they just aren’t great players. Ngog shouldn’t be playing, and certainly not in a 4-4-2 with Torres. Maxi has been apparently one of our best players this season. But he hasn’t offered much quality for me.

The next manager has got some tough decisions. Does he just get rid of the whole squad and build a new team? Out of the current first team, the only players who I think he should build the team around is Reina and Lucas. The rest have got a have a long look at themselves in the mirror. The way things are at the moment, I would sell the lot of them. Torres included, if we get enough money for him.

Once Hodgson has gone, these players won’t be able to hide anymore. The sooner Hodgson has gone, the better. We’ll all be able to see what players actually want to play for Liverpool, and which ones are just pretending and hiding behind excuses

Hope he told himself not to play central midfield

How hard is this for the owners ? On one hand they have 90% of fans telling them the manager is ****e and must be sacked, on the other..so called proffessionals..pundits, liverpool legends no less, telling them to stick with him he'll get it right, for people who know little about the game...it's must be difficult for the owners.

                    Damn those legends and pundits!

                        Nicked off RAWK

This is a hellish predicament for FSG

It's a massive decision that has come too early in their learning curve. There is a real knowledge vacuum, based in the US, no expertise, no CEO and seemingly reliant on Comolli and Purslow and perhaps Ayres for football "advice".

I think rafa would do a great job under the right ownership. But now is not the right time for his return, the squad seems to have deep rooted divisions, not to mention the fan base. Plus we have Comolli which would be like fire and gasoline once more.

But if Kenny thinks he is able to manage the team then personally I would back him to do so. In the face of the reported options, i wanted him in July. I always knew Hodgson was a bad fit with a mediocre record.

I'd like Kenny and thommo in charge even if it's on a temp basis, if they're prepared to do it. I'd even bring Paco back as fitness coach. If in the summer FSG had plans for a new long-term manager then that would have to be spelled out from the start. After that kenny can move upstairs to the board (Comolli should report to Kenny in my opinion!)

But certainly I don't accept Xerxes point that an interim manager would be a major disruption that would hinder the long term approach. hiddink showed that a mid season change with the right guy to bring back confidence, team morale and sound tactics can work wonders. Also Man City have shown with Mancini, also appointed mid term, that there's no problem offering a short term contract with a performance related extension.

If Kenny is not to be offered the job, then of the available (read unemployed) candidates I'd give Rijkaard a short term contract with an option, if he'd take it.

But anyway, now we have Comolli and we' re taking the DoF continental approach, surely we must get used to the hiring and firing of coaches, no? That's what the Spanish and Italians do.

The difference is that the fans have the club at heart, pundits do not.

It shouldnt be remotely difficult for the owners to work out who to believe.

I think the biggest problem for them is the lack of immediate options to take the reigns.

Fans are also going to be more emotional and shouldn't be as knowledgeable about the game then pundits.

We know that is not the case, especially the latter but would NEVS?
