After the game, which leaves the Reds facing a relegation battle ahead, Hodgson told radio station talkSPORT, “I can’t ask more of the players than they’ve given the club. I thought their workrate was outstanding, our passing was very good, our movement was good and Everton were fortunate enough to be able to defend on the back of a two-goal cushion. Sell Gerrard and Carra and get in a manager that you give total power and let the players know that the new manager is THE BOSS and if you don't agree, transfer request and leave.

There is to many big egos out there and if the manager isn't in total control then he won't be successful.

I would think that when he was hired he was informed of the fact that the ownership would change and that in this eventuality, it would be likely that they may want to replace the current manager.

I guess this is why perhaps he had a slighly more generous clause added to his contract.

                    16 Conclusions From Everton 2 Liverpool 0

                    * The pub bore's line of the weekend? The boy Coleman is mustard.

                    * Given the pressure Roy Hodgson is under, there was something rather unseemly, not to mention undiplomatic, about Kenny Dalglish positioning himself in the directors' box directly behind Liverpool's new owners for the Merseyside derby. Yet Hodgson's worst enemy during his torturous reign has been himself and the remit he laid out in the summer. Asked to account for Hodgson's appointment in July, chairman Martin Broughton explained: "He was really focused on, 'I believe, and I've got a track record that demonstrates it, that I can take the existing players, get much better performances out of them and buy constructively to build for a better future.'" On both counts, Hodgson has failed. His inherited players have regressed and his signings, without exception, have flopped. Paul Konchesky's only use is an embodiment of Liverpool's present plight and the mistake of appointing a mid-table manager for one of English football's biggest jobs.

                    * But the criticism of Hodgson does not stop there. It cannot. Not after such an abysmal performance. Not after over 70 minutes were allowed to pass before the Liverpool manager finally, belatedly brought to change to compete disorder. Form is temporary but a permanent feature of Liverpool's performance his season has been the absence of shape, style and tactical clarity. It hardly inspires confidence that Hodgson looks as clueless on the touchline as his side do on the actual pitch. In the final reckoning, no manager should survive when it's impossible to believe that change can produce worse. On that basis, Hodgson's time should already be up.

                    * Notice how much better Liverpool were after the introduction of additional firepower? Tactically inept is a default charge to be issued by disgruntled and accountable armchair pundits but pairing Steven Gerrard with Fernando Torres is pointless unless there is a player in the midfield capable of providing quality service. Criticising Gerrard and Torres has become a popular pastime but they are being wasted in Hodgson's otherwise-guileless team.

                    * Liverpool's owners are seemingly so new to the game that they required a mid-match report from Brougton, yet they can't have missed the evidence that their vote of confidence in Hodgson has been misplaced. To hear Hodgson describe the result as "unlucky" and laud his side's performance, ought to be the final straw. Defending the indefensible is itself indefensible.

                    * Joe Cole's transfer to the centre lasted almost as long as the predictions that he would be the signing of the summer. The left of midfield may not be his preferred position, but there are no excuses for his inability to cross a ball over the head of Phil Jagielka for the entire ninety minutes. Value for money because he was signed on a free transfer? In wages alone, Cole has earned more than a million pounds since moving to the north-west. On this form, Cole could be the first 'Bosman' since Winston Bogarde to be declared a waste of money.

                    * Some stereotypically-sensitive Liverpool fans took issue before the season even with the fence-sitting description of Maxi Rodriguez as 'generally underwhelming'. In retrospect, the mistake that was made was the implication that Rodriguez occasionally produces better. He is the definition of a nothing player.

                    * The only fault to be made of Everton's performance was that they let the visitors off the hook. Had they kept the foot down, Liverpool could have finished the derby bottom of the table.

                    * But while the red side of Stanley Park is looking backwards, the blue side can start peering upwards. The impression remains that they remain two or three players short of a Champions League outfit, with the 'two or three' determined by Louis Saha's state of fitness. Otherwise, Everton are a very decent outfit. John W Henry could have been excused for wondering if he had bought the wrong club of Liverpool. With £20m - money that, unfortunately, Bill Kenwright doesn't have for David Moyes' disposal - they would be there or thereabouts with the elite.

                    * All change in the north-west? Everton to finish above Liverpool and Man City to trump Manchester United? It's a very real possibility - particularly the former.

                    * Too good to go down? Along with a vote of confidence, there are no more dreaded words in football. In their current situation, Liverpool are not too good to go down. They are too bad to stay up. Unless something drastic changes at Liverpool, and Hodgson's refusal to change personnel at Goodison Park suggests that drastic change is not in his make-up, the unthinkable really could occur. Liverpool are in a relegation fight.
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Maxi and Cole, two players that would deliver with a pass and move manager in charge but used in a hoofball system because our board is totally **** when it comes down to football matters and signed a hoofball manager.

I hope that Purslow get the sacked very quickly and someone that know football inside out replaces him. The club needs that, now.

Thank you for helping us get rid of G&H Purslow but we need someone better than you now. Someone that know what he is doing.

I have to admit that I was one of the people that thaought Roy was a OK appointment.
I thought he`d bring some calmness to the squad and do a decent job until new owners came in. I didn`t expect us to be in the top four at this point, at least somewhere within strikeing distance.
He seems totally lost, and way out of his depth. It looks like he doesn`t know how to set up the team, and what the players strengths and weaknesses are.
I`m very surprised that he has done as badly as he has, but with new owners it`s time to start building fro scracth. Write Roy off as a mistake, and get in someone that will have the potential to stay at the club for a long time.

Completely how I feel. King Kenny saw this coming, as did quite a few posters here to be fair. I’m gutted I didn’t, and wanted to keep the “LFC way” of not firing managers without giving them a chance. Roy has surprised and disappointed me as he’s still a nice guy.
