Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Rafa came out last season and said we'd get 4th. It didn't make us any better, or likely any worse either for that matter. What matters is what's said behind closed doors for the players mentality. And what matters to the fans is the full time result.

I don't want Roy and want an ambitious young manager who plays attractive football and has an outwardly positive attitude. But this season was about the results only and if Roy continues to get them then fair play to him.

And whilst I want him sacked, if waiting until the end of the season to get the right candidate is the plan, then I'm all for that as well.
Yes. Confidence or lack thereof really do affect on-field performance. Last season we badly lost confidence and it clearly effected the teams performance. I just can't believe how a manager of a club like Liverpool isn't constantly talking up his players or his chances. This was one of the things I liked about Rafa, and the same could be said about Mourinho, wiskey nose and others, they're constantly giving their team positive reinforcement (psychology term, sorry). I guess they didn't teach any Sports Psychology back in 35 BC when Roy got his coaching certificate.

How'd that work out for you?

He may say different behind closed doors in all fairness. Either way it's results that will decide the reign of Hodgson, nothing else. The methods he uses to get them don't matter really.

He is too old and set in his ways and will never understand what it takes to be a Liverpool Manager. His soundbites are shockingly embarassing and more akin to the Manager of a Championship club. He is a smalltime Manager with a smalltime mentality who just cannot comprehend the role he is in. Go now for Gods sake, just go!!!

In fact going on league performances - surely the best barometer to judge a team by - they are a better outfit than the Fiorintina team that took us apart last season, in games when we had our best XI available out.

With the teams we have put out against them we have done very, very well. We could have lost both games, but we could have won both games too. But I think other the two games I'd class both teams as pretty even. And I don't think we'll often be able to say that a severely weakened Liverpool side is as good as 4th place in anyone of the major leagues such as Italy, Spain, Germany and France.
Splitting hairs but they're actually 5th

If they're the 4th/5th best team in italy then it doesnt say much for the quality of their league IMO of course

I agree both games were pretty even and could have gone either way but we certainly didnt play well in any of them.....if Napoli had a bit more belief and not sat off us they would have had far more joy (again IMO of course)

The bit in bold ive highlighted is ludicrous. Not only is it a completely different competition but it's a bit like saying well Chelsea beat Blackpool 4-0 and we lost 2-1 so therefore Chelsea should easily beat us (although that's quite possible ) Also their league is only 9 games in and im guessing they only finished 5th or 6th last year. Sure they're a decent side but they're certainly not a top, top team as Roy would have us believe.

Personally i use my own eyes when judging a team and i thought Napoli were poor overall.

While I think some revision of our view on Dodger is justified (it's easy to see what we want so it fits our pre-existing views - hence what I think is less than balanced criticism of his non-apology apology and so on), I would like to record that I think we played pretty crap football last night, despite the win. The improvement largely comes through pressing higher up the pitch but as an attacking side we're pretty crap. It's not as if any of the goals came through flowing moves that tore Napoli apart. As I recall there was one decent move (which led to the Ngog's chance that the keeper saved) - the rest was pretty clueless, no pattern of play at all.

So while I think it's possible Dodger might get us through this season without too much damage (speculation on transfers aside), I still have no confidence he's able to get us playing the kind of football needed to compete at the top level.

Since him and his mates know **** all about football I wouldnt be at all surprised if he was happy with Roy,.

All he'll see is we're unbeaten in the last 4 games and he's likely to think Roy's doing a good job.

Fortunately for us, the results aren't going to improve, if the law of ineptitude is maintained. We've just played a bunch or poor/average sides and it's for everyone to see that there are still massive issues on the pitch as regards the tactics/playing style etc ... In time, this should change. Dodgson will get found out, hopefully the sooner the better.
