Does the deluded fool know he is describing himself

Why are there so many retired Liverpool players who don't rate and are so rude about Benitez? It mystifies me, it really does.

I can understand them being critical even though I might not agree with them but so many are dismissive and hostile.
Rafa isn't English. Nothing more nothing less.

Owen Coyle (and im speaking from first hand experience) is someone who people immediately respect because he treats everyone else with respect. The reason he is turning into such a great man manager is because he talks to players on their level and doesn't talk down to them. He has the ability to make average players feel great about themselves and make them raise their game. He has a huge amount of drive and energy and that helps him keep his players on high morale.
It sounds simple enough but really it takes a certain type of personality, intelligence and drive to do what he does.

I would be quite happy to take a punt on Coyle because I think the players would love his energy and respond to it very well. He could get us to go back to playing the Liverpool way
Would top class players and top class young talents sign for us if we had Coyle as manager? Probably not.

Why not? Do you think Ronaldo gave a **** who the manager of Madrid was when he joined them? Or Ibrahamovic when he joined Milan. I doubt they knew who the manager was.
Managers come and go, modern day players dont care about the reputations of managers. They only look at how big their pay is. And anyway if i was a player im sure i would meet him and like his enthusiasm straight away.

I dont often disagree with you, but i dont subscribe to the theory that players, when considering a move, do not stop to think who the manager is, before making a decision.

Forgetting the Coyle question for a second, i very much doubt Ibrahimovic made the decision to join Milan without knowing who the manager was. That just doesnt make sense to me.

Not so sure about that. they are much more respectful of Houllier. The media in general are also much more favourable to Wenger. His not being English is certainly a factor but I don't believe it is the only one.

I agree with Nick, erm, i mean Dave. I think the media reaction to Rafa is more down to his constant pisstaking and his unwillingness to play Stevie La in centre mid. I also think it has some grounding in his ability to win games, despite deploying a zonal marking system, and his attitude towards their boys club back slappery with Fergie (the manager not the singer).
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Rafa's prickly (perhaps its the goatee...) but personally I like that. I read that in 6 years he'd only ever granted one exclusive interview to a member of the national press. The establishment wont be happy with that.

Benitez now being listed in the 'next Liverpool manager' market at PP.

I phoned through yesterday and was quoted 50/1.

                      He's now 20/1.

Liverpool will attract top players whoever the manager is. But no doubt a top class coach would help attract even more of them. But most interviews I see are of people dreaming about playing for a big club, be that united, real, Milan, Ajax or Liverpool. I don't see many where they dream of playing under ferguson or mourinho.

In fact, the only time lately I've seen players wish to play for a certain coach is when they mention Wenger, but only because they see him as good for career progression.
                        Forwards.......

Houllier used to give little snippets and off the record stuff to make it in then paper to suit his agenda at any one time.
The press battered Wenger in the early days but he worked for a board who were strong enough to back him 100% so they moved onto an easier target

We shouldn't be looking to sign players who aren't interested in who the manager is.
I cannot understand why everyone is banging on about Owen Coyle (not neccessarily you Danny) how many full Bolton games have these fans seen?? He is just the flavour of the month.
Granted if he gets Bolton top 8 for 2 or 3 years then he's worth considering

The clamour for Coyle shows just how much people want to be freed from Bodger.
