Had this season been a normal one, I wouldn't have expected a battle for 4th. We let good players go - Masch, Riera, Aquilani & Insua and replaced them with ****e or average players. Been since the league has been that poor, we really did have a chance of 4th.

Instead we have a far better chance of bottom 3. If we keep Roy and I had to pick which was more likely - 4th or relegation, I'd pick relegation. Under a new man such as Dalglish? I'd pick 4th, even at this stage.

The only reason I can think of why the press give him an easy ride is because he makes their job really easy by providing soundbites day after day.
A mate of mine is a football journo for the Guardian and he says its a nightmare running around from press conference to press conference hearing the managers saying the same stereotypical rubbish and trying to come up with original copy for each article.

Hodgson is a journalist's dream so why should they hound him out (or even accurately report the facts??) when it will make their job harder
