So he's not really saying they support him, he's guessing they do, however he said they do symapthise with him, which is different, you can sympathise with someone you need to sack for the sake of the business/club.

yup - I mean he's talked about working his way to getting to this the pinacle of his career managing LFC - you could take it they sympathise with how things have turned out
