souness really blew this club off track for a while, but the rest of the leadership at the club was also weak for as long as i can remember (which is the mid 90's )

if nesv or fsg turn out to have the sort of direction that we expect from them (in five years time, not at the moment), then any sounessesque crisis will be averted. really most of what it will take will be appointing a stronger character than roy evans, and i can't imagine that would be too hard.

It all depends on what happens next. If someone comes in and is successful then Roy will soon be forgotten about. If we lose a few players on the back of this season and we struggle to bridge the gap from a mid-table team to Championship contenders, then yes, probably the most hated manager in Liverpool’s history will have made a significant impact in the memory of most Liverpool supporters.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Roy Hodgson’s grip on the Liverpool manager’s job loosened still farther last night as he refused to answer questions about his future in an extraordinarily abrupt post-match press conference that followed their defeat by Blackburn Rovers.

Hodgson answered only three questions before his media responsibilities were curtailed by Ian Cotton, the Liverpool director of communications, who brought the conference to a halt less than 3½ minutes after it started.

Hodgson’s position, though, now appears untenable, having presided over five defeats in Liverpool’s past eight matches, a run that has resulted in the 63-year-old losing the backing of the club’s owner, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), and put him at the mercy of supporters who are increasingly agitating for his removal.

Having already decided that Hodgson will be replaced as soon as a suitable replacement can be identified and recruited, FSG may now have to make emergency contingency plans in the knowledge that Hodgson seems unable to turn around the situation facing him.

“I am not prepared to talk about my future,” Hodgson said. “At this moment I am depressed enough with the performance and the result. I am not here to talk about that. I have no comments to make and I don’t intend to answer any questions on the subject.

“We are very dejected, we have feelings of bitter disappointment and frustration. If you are Liverpool and you lose away to Blackburn, it is impossible to put a positive slant on it. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a really bad day.

“We had a very large travelling contingent and I know they were dejected at the end. What the fans are feeling, I can assure them that if they came into the dressing room, they would see people similarly dejected.

“In football you keep going as best you can. You try and make sure the next result is a better one but that’s all you can do. Football throws up good and bad moments and in a bad moment no amount of talking can change that.”

Hodgson received some sympathy from Steve Kean, the Blackburn caretaker manager, who insisted that his opposite number is “a great coach” despite pointing out that the margin of victory could have been wider.

“We were magnificent and the winning margin probably should have been more,” Kean said. “I thought we looked tremendous. You don’t like to be greedy but we had a chance to go four up and didn’t.

“Roy is a great coach and a great manager. But I think we can only look after what we can do, which is to go out and win games and move up the league.”

Kean also stated that Blackburn would “see where we are” on the proposed transfer of Ronaldinho in the next 24 hours even though the Brazilian seems set to sign for Grêmio.

If only Purslow had the same mentality then Bodge would not be here

But G&H were. Maybe unfair, but Rafa will be remember by most for fighting for the cause, Roy will be remembered for making the cause worse.

Thats the thing. We have lost a couple of big players since then, but no way should we be bad enough to be getting thrashed at Blackburn Rovers and beaten by Wolves, with pretty much everyone fancying a go at us. A new man in tomorrow, get the lads confidence up and lets see where the season ends.

As an aside, the defending was atrocious again today. How deep were we on the goal when the lad turned Soto. Just ****ing embarrassing. Things like that can get fixed pretty quickly.
