As you rightly say, we had more players at the World Cup than any other premier league club, with 15 I believe (somewhere else I read it was 13 - can't be bothered to check). Arsenal and Chelsea had 11 each and Man U just 8 (another source said just 5 - can't be bothered to check that either), so for him to say only Torres was a stand-out performer in the squad is a bit daft

The fact that Hodgson is making the same squad look like Tranmere on a bad day is not Rafa Benitez's fault, no matter how often danperkins tries to make that point
Hodgeson being woeful is not Rafa's fault. There must be vested interests at play though when many people are on here talking up Insua, Aquilani and saying there were people who thought 18m for Johnson was a steal. This place is daft at the moment. Everyone accepts Roy needs to go, nowt to discuss there, so people are looking to pick fights about every possible explanation. Rafa and his signings, Christian Purslow or whatever. Tedious times. I just hope Roy is sacked soon so we fan focus on the future.

people are questioning rafas transfer record and rightly so.

However, whenever he went in for his first choice like torres, alonso, mascherano, reina he's pretty much nailed it bang on. Those players have all gone on to become genuinely world class players.

Im not convinced that aquilani was his first choice for that spot but you cant ignore the robbie keane issue. He was first choice although not first choice in order (or something like that with gareth barry).

Where rafa hasnt got it right is with his second or third choice targets. Players like babel and aquilani were all expensive players who havent lived up to expectations and that has to go against rafa.

Rafa had a picture of liverpool being a jigsaw in his mind with each player being a piece fitting precisely into a certain space. The problem that we have now is that the overall jigsaw has changed but the players havent so Hodgson is trying to build his own jigsaw with pieces that just dont fit.

In my opinion Roy Hodgson only has the 442 jigsaw in his locker.

Well obviously, if you can only spend £6m on 3 players, what the **** do you expect to get? Iniesta, Messi and Ronaldo?

How you cant see the relationship between debt & not buying quality players, is beyond me.

Out of 202 votes so far 196 want him sacked now.

That's pretty conclusive of fan opinion anyway you look at it. Hope you're reading this John Henry

i haven't seen any good reason from anyone to keep him on, people that want to keep he just say in blind faith that he'll get it right in time, despite there not being any signs of improvement

then there are the other that dont want him sacked simply cause we don't sack manager.

but he's useless and is dragging us through the gutter

Crazy poll results. I want him gone but put 'don't know' simply because of who he would be replaced by. Throw Dalglish the job then sure, get rid of Roy but someone of similar calibre then no thanks, might aswel hold onto him until he get's some kinda momentum (if that's even possible).

I wan't Roy gone but I want a replacement too. I seriously want to see Kenny as manager of our great club, even if it's till the end of the season it would be a great lift for the players and fans, also a wise move for the owners. There was a risk in giving Dalglish the job after Rafa BUT, that risk is no longer there, surely he can't do any worse a job than Roy?

Roy Hodgson insists Liverpool performances prove they will climb Premier League

Roy Hodgson believes Liverpool’s performances against Manchester United and Everton prove they are good enough to escape the relegation battle despite the fact the Anfield side lost both games, conceding five goals.

Roy Hodgson - Roy Hodgson insists Liverpool performances prove they will climb Premier League

The 63 year-old was upbeat after both the 3-2 reverse at Old Trafford and Sunday’s comprehensive 2-0 loss in the 214th Merseyside derby, insisting the latter was the best display he had witnessed from his players since taking charge in July, despite his counterpart David Moyes suggesting Everton allowed Liverpool plenty of possession safe in the knowledge the visitors would struggle to score.

“I am confident we can get out of the situation we are in and I base that on our performance at Manchester United, which is a very difficult place to go and play,” he said. “And I will base it on our performance at Everton, which is another very difficult place to go and play.

“If we are capable of playing as well as we have done in those two games away from home against top opponents then we are good enough to get out of this situation. But it will not happen overnight, we will need games to do it and we will need wins to do it.”

Hodgson admits Liverpool’s woeful start - the worst for a new manager since 1928 - and their abject league position, 19th, means his team is now under immense pressure to pick up points against Blackburn at Anfield on Sunday and the following week at Bolton.

“There will be an awful lot of pressure on the next game and the game after that because if we do not win those we are going to still be in the relegation zone,” he said. “We have to accept that pressure.

“[The failure to turn possession into goals] concerns me very much. We have got a top class striker in Fernando Torres and at the moment he is not scoring the goals we would hope he would.

"He was battered during the World Cup, vilified by all and sundry for his performances both in this country and in Spain. Mentally I think he is a little bit low about that.”

Meanwhile, Uefa delegates yesterday inspected the pitch at Napoli’s Stadio San Paolo, where Liverpool are due to play in the Europa League tomorrow night, after vandals broke in and damaged the playing surface. The game is expected to go ahead as scheduled.

                      __________

The good thing is that he is on to something here, we can hardly do anyhing but climb the table...

Why does he keep undermining the players like this? Why not actually talk them up - say - Torres has an outstanding record - an incredible talent - we all need to rally round - he'll come good. Hodgson is a tool of the highest order.

"The failure to turn possession into goals concerns me very much" - idiot! THEN SET THE TEAM UP TO ATTACK AND DONT SIT SO ****ING DEEP WITH THE STRIKER ISOLATED - jesus christ - it's not rocket science is it?

Because he's trying to deflect the blame from himself. It's the sign of someone out of their depth.

I don't feel comfortable saying this as a Liverpool fan but there really is no point beating about the bush - Hoxha out.
