H & G (& Purslow? )fired Rafa not owing to the result but his power in Liverpool, They want an easy-going man to be our manager, who has no objection about the transfer fund and policy. People who want Rafa out and think that they will appoint Kenny are living in dream.

H & G not here anymore, only Purslow is left, depends how the new owners look at it, either they can act quickly and get someone in that the players would respect and want to play for, Or they can sit back, take a chance and give a man time who looks hopelessly lost at the moment?Originally posted by erick View PostH & G (& Purslow? )fired Rafa not owing to the result but his power in Liverpool, They want an easy-going man to be our manager, who has no objection about the transfer fund and policy. I see the Est carpet bombing of LDP's position continues.
Quite right too.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Bloody well said. It's as if some of you think it's cool that you can't be bothered to read a decent article.Originally posted by Galb View PostI never get the criticism of Tomkins being too long. He's not verbose, he just goes to the trouble of using examples and stats to back up his points. Its a different style of journalism but it has its place. Its nice to see some well thought out and well argued stuff, rather than the 'POOL in CRISIS' crap you get elsewhere.
Agree with the poster who said that Tompkins is the best LFC writer bar none.K ris90210

I honestly don't see why people still need to discuss Rafa's situation and the contra-factual idea of how it would/would not be if he was still here.
Rafa is gone and the supporters where split on the issue - fine, but why is that important now? and why is it important to discuss in every thread?
To many supporters IMO are letting their emotions run high and are just clinging to the idea that it would be better because they liked Rafa and for many good reasons.
We have no way of telling if we would be in a better position, although it hardly could be any worse, so what is the point of bringing that very hypothetical situation up again and again?
Rafa is gone and a very poor decision was made to appoint Roy as manager, but that is the situation as it is. We really need to focus on how we get out of this mess, and much less time on the fantasy idea of "if Rafa was in charge".
This same basic discussion whether Rafa should have been sacked or not could be kept in one thread, and leave to discussion to the current situation instead. Rafa is gone and he won't come back anytime soon, so why not look forward instead of being stuck in the past?
I don't get it tbh.

I guess it's just difficult to move on from having one of the best managers around (opinion, of course) to this...Originally posted by Darkon View PostI honestly don't see why people still need to discuss Rafa's situation and the contra-factual idea of how it would/would not be if he was still here.

My guess is that we'll still be talking about Rafa for a long, long time yet.K ris90210

I believe that was the always excellent Dion Fanning in the Irish Independent. It rang true at the time and it rings very true now.Originally posted by el matador View Postjust after he was sacked someone said that in 6 months the rafa benitez tenure will look like the golden era for liverpool.

I've never understood the Tompkin's bashing on this forum. If someone isn't mentally capable of reading more than a couple of paragraphs, why ****ing boast about it? Everyone knows what you are gonna get with the man (I've personally missed his articles recently), so why feel the need to pretend not to read them, then moan because they are too long? It's particularly amusing hearing it from posters who have tens of thousands of posts who spend all day reading crap from idiots like like me.
Personally I though it was an excellent article. He makes the same valid points as some on here have, except he supports it with stats. His article took me about 10 minutes to read, browsing through multiple threads on the same subject looking for a few decent posts took me about 6 weeks.Last edited by RedReet; 19-10-10, 07:41 PM.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I always enjoy reading Tomkins' stuff as it's rare to find such well researched pieces, especially in sports journalism. Sure they're long and i sometimes have to come back to them as i haven't the time to read them but they're always worth reading.
He admits to being a Rafa fan but at the same time this didnt make Rafa immune from criticism from him.
The only thing i disagree with him about in his latest article is giving Roy a little bit more time. Pretty much everything else is spot on.Last edited by Ben_Itez; 19-10-10, 08:14 PM.'Religion is killing each other over who has the best imaginary friend'

I often like his pieces but he is not a natural fit for the internet (certainly not a forum). On paper I think people would take the time. He's not perfect but unlike many he is aware of and admits to the pre-existing views/biases that might prejudice his opinion on any subject.Originally posted by Ben_Itez View PostI always enjoy reading Tompkins' stuff as it's rare to find such well researched pieces, especially in sports journalism. I'm happy to give Hoxha more time. I think we can afford to keep him on for another five minutes. Maybe even ten..

It all depends on how sucsessful the next manager is. People will always refer to all managers the club has but I think the reason Benitez is getting so much press coverage is because how piss poor our current manager is. In 6 months time we will look back at Roy's time here and think how the hell we were at the bottom of the table with this group of players. Polsen and Konchesky aside of course.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostI guess it's just difficult to move on from having one of the best managers around (opinion, of course) to this...
