If so why pay decent money for him. There simply must be either a young keeper of comparable quality on the books or one who was available for less when we bought him.

Doesn't really fill with confidence having him between the posts does it, we could have done a lot better with the £2 Million or so we paid for him

Aye, it makes sense despite the fact we could have bought a half decent foreign GK and registered one of the u21's to make up the numbers.

I suppose his hands were tied, it explains why he has to let a 1st choice England International go and replace him with a 29 year old French replacement who can't even get in teh French squad.

My frustration is with Roy, not with you.

Personally, I wouldn't have sold Cavalieri. The rumour is he wanted to leave to get first team football which is fair enough, but he was under contract so I'd have kept him unitil we got a suitable replacement.

We only registered 21 players, so no one would have to be dropped and we wouldn't need a 3rd keeper anyway. We should have either kept Cav or found a suitable replacement, not took some bum and used the excuse it's because he's homegrown. I know you don't need to register U21's, but we could have submitted the same squad as we did except instead of Jones we could have had Cavalieri and say Shelvey, or some other keeper and again Shelvey if they aren't homegrown. Instead of registering 21 players, we'd register 22, makes no difference. Registering an U21 is only a waste of a space if you actually have someone else to fill that space. We didn't, so Roy's excuse that Jones was needed to fill the quota is balls. It's even more balls if indeed he is considering selling Johnson for a foreigner.

If we have 21 players atm and one of them is Jones, then to 'replace' Jones with Cav(sic) would require one other non homegrown player to be left out for Cav. The obvious choice would be Babel, Poulsen or Aurelio who never play anyway, but that would have been the choice to be made.

Why would we? We still have 8 registered home grown players and are still within the 25 man limit.
