In Hodgson's defence I doubt very much he'd be the only manager terrified of dropping him. When it looked as though no contract was materialising from Benitez, Carra went running to his mates in the press with talk of how he wasn't remotely bothered if he had to leave.

Then, hours before the takeover is rubber-stamped, he magically signs a bumper two year contract. It stinks, but going back to the original point, it'll take a manager with balls to leave him out.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

It's certainly the first time I've ever said that

I think Carra has plenty to offer the club, but not necessary as a 100% player. He should be used more like Sami was used towards the end of his time with us.

What I would really like to see if Kenny back in as manager and Carra moving gradually into coaching and the reincarnation of the boot room. Back to the Liverpool way!

Great player and a great servant to the club.

It is better for him and for us if the manager starts resting him and not make him an automatic starter for every game. He can have a longer career. His experience is vital and will be very useful for the club and the youngsters.

I think we're ignoring a rather pertinent point here - dropping carra is one thing, but we've hardly got Carvalho and Vidic waiting in the wings.

As things stand, it's not completely definitive to say that Carra doesnt warrant his place in the first XI.

Our biggest problem is the fact Agger is like the glass man and Skrtel has had his fair share of time out as well. So Carra is well needed, as he can play all 4 positions in the back four. He should not be an automatic choice because of who he is and where he comes from, he like others should be in the team on merit

What?!? Carra's been a great servant. Definitely. Does he deserve a special pace in our clubs history? Yes. But.... Bootroom?!? He's a ****ing caveman tactically. And his 'alleged' involvement in the mangt of the club these past 12 months means I don't trust the arsehole as far as I can throw him. I wouldn't have him near our coaching set up until he got his coaching badges and proved at another couple of clubs that he was capable of working at our club....EXACTLY the same as I'd expect from any other coach.

C'mon man you're sounding like a Geordie. "imagine a Keegan/Shearer mangt team!" and FWIW whilst I'd give my left one to see the king back in his throne it could only be on a 'caretaker' basis. We need a fresh start.

                      Of course.

At the moment though, can anyone really justify others taking Carragher's place on merit? Not convinced.

For me it's several points -
                        1. At 32/33 and never being the quickest he shouldn't be 1st choice every week for us.
                        2. His refusal to play right back against Middlesborough when we lost 2-0 that arguably cost us the league, Skrtel played there and was twisted by Johnson and Downing. Contrast that to happily playing RB for Hodgson.
                        3. Publically backing Hodgson (even if that was slagging fans) when he didn't say anything in support of Benitez.

For me right now everything about Carra smacks of self preservation, I don't doubt for 1 second he is anything but 100% committed to Liverpool as well but to me it appears that playing 15 yards deeper and hoofing it under Hodgson is exactly how he keeps his place in the side.
A different manager who wants to play pressing progressive football probably means Carra doesn't play every week.

I don't see Carra as a Gary Neville type who plays when called upon and doesn't stir up any trouble as it's for Man U's greater good, I currently see Carra as someone who is thinking more about himself and playing the games he needs for an appearance record than thinking about Liverpool.

How many fans can honestly picture Carra playing a bit part for the next 2 years of his contract without hearing a peep of discontent from him???
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Oh the Irony if Hodgson dropped him and the backlash from the Carragher family was then instrumental in getting Roy the sack. He's a legend but that status has been tainted by his supposed part in Rafa's removal and Roys appointment

As for Jamie,I agree with Dww,time to start easing him out just as soon as we have someone worth replacing him with cos Skrtel needs to go too.

****ing right if Hodgson can take us to mid table obscurity with Carra playing every week he can damn well do it playing Wilson/Ayala/Kelly at Centre Back in a few games.

Carra has got to the stage now where he is stopping the progression of younger centre backs because he knows he's almost undroppable - well Hodgson certainly doesn't have the stones to leave him out

On current form Skrtel and Kyriakos are 1st choice centre backs so Carra shouldn't play, Kelly has proved he deserves a run of games at right back.

Rewind 13 years, how would a 20 year old Carra feel because he wasn't playing the games he should be because of an older player clinging on too long

Looking at the bigger picture rather than one player in isolation. Soto and Skrtel are the best pairing we have, especially when Agger is out injured. So the way I see it having a good pairing at the centre of defence is better than having and individual that is better in his own right, however, the pairing is weaker
