Maybe he doesn't fit into Rodgers plan the way Skrtel does, fantastic player or not?

I didnt watch Swansea much last season - how important were their CBs to their style of play?

I know Agger seems pretty much ideal for Rodgers' style of play, but I was just wondering how relevant that is for his position. Maybe Rodgers sees Agger as a luxury player, and that funds would be better used elsewhere in the team.

Well Agger is no Ashley Williams, But I think he would have been ok.

I think this scenario is one where anything can be read into it. And that's the danger. It allows negativity to run riot.

People are worried about the message being sent out. There is only one message we should be worried about, and that's the one sent at the end of the season.

If we finish top 4 it shows that whatever moves Rodgers made were correct. Coming 6th, 7th and 8th in the last three seasons sends a bigger message than selling Agger.

That alone says we are no longer a big club. It says we are abject and average and that is the message I'd personally we rather changed.

Selling Agger is a gamble, but you don't get to the top of your game by playing safe.

Well, it's just 10 days till the Prem kicks off, so the clock is ticking well and truly now for shaping the team for this season.

You also don't reach the top by selling your better players.

Why have the likes of Vidic and Ferdinand never even been mentioned in terms of other clubs? Because United don't sell their best players. Everyone knows there's no chance. We are a soft touch.

I dont think we have a chance of top 4 with or without Agger

If we sell Agger the chances of reaching 4th diminish greatly imo

We are in a much, much weaker position than United though. They sold Ronaldo when a team offering more to him came in. There are just a lot more teams who offer players more than us than there are for United.

It is also a factor that it is clear at United who the best players are both in general and in terms of the managers plans. The upheaval with us has meant that it is much less clear. We also don't have anything like a squad built to our managers specifications which means sacrifices have to be made. I'm not sure, at all that Agger is the right one, but sometimes you have to trust the manager.

While I do agree I wonder if Spurs would have done better accepting 30m+ for Modric last season and investing in the team.

Vidic has been linked with plenty of clubs and they sold Ronaldo to and replaced him with valencia

I hope (probably in vain) it's posturing from BR to get Agger to sign a new contract.

Regardless, we shouldn't be saying every player has his price to the press, it's the sort of thing Hodgson would have been lambasted for

It's the messages we send out by selling our better players that mean we ultimately end up sending that even bigger message by finishing out of the top 4.

                          message in a bottle..message in a bottle.

Hodgson hawked Agger around Europe and rightly got absolutely ****ing slaughtered by all and sundry.

Now Rodgers is doing the same and loads of people are making excuses for him.

                                Indeed.

BR needs to say less to the press, regardless of whether Agger is on his way out or not we shouldn't be giving them headline stories about what we may or may not be doing.
