When you read that Times extract, it doesn't seem half as bad as the extracted quotes earlier made it seem, at least not to me anyway.

To be honest, if Citeh wanted to pay £27m plus then I'd be tempted. I think he's class and would prefer to keep hold of him obviously, but for all we know he could be injury plagued next season (wasn't there something about his agent being worried about his back and wanting him to move to warmer climates? Probably bollocks but...). It'd be a gamble to sell him and obviously how we re-invest the money would be the deciding factor but that would then only be judge-able in hindsight.

But yeah, basically I hope we keep him cos he's great

Exactly how I feel, 27 mill is a lot of money especially for a defender and I'd be tempted to take it if I were the owners.

I really believe we could invest in someone of a high calibre with that amount of money, would rather we kept him though.

That's what I mean by the full transcript above making me feel better. I don't think we're saying he's "readily available" per se, I think we're saying, and let's be honest like it or not it IS true, that taking everything into account, every player does have his price.

I know where you're coming from but Suarez hasn't been made readily available, he's just signed a new contract and he's probably our best player.

Carroll has but I don't think he's one of our best players.

I don't like the way the chief has come out and said any player has their price though, have found that particularly worrying and frustrating.

We know that is probably true, but no need to advertise it is there? Makes us sound desperate, no two ways about it. BR needs to keep his counsel at press conferences and remember the true Liverpool way is to give nothing away.

It's how we would spend the money that worries me. We sold Torres for £50m then spunked £35m on carroll and we wasted loads last summer.

As great as agger is, 27 million would be enough for 2 quality players. There's no getting away from his injury record either. While I'd rather we weren't so open regarding our position, I would understand if we accepted such a big offer for a defender.

but as we saw with the Torres/Carroll situation, clubs will know we need to replace AND how much cash we'll have..

That's very true mate. Someone on here mentioned our tendency to focus on one transfer target as opposed to having 2-3 in our sites for each position. With 27mil we'd have a fair amount of flexibility if we played it right.

I hope we keep hold of him myself.

I've just got this sneaking feeling that this is all a "s m o k e s c r e e n" to give the impression that we're skinter than we are whilst we negotiate the impending batch of signings.

I've been thinking that for a few weeks now. We took a calculated hit on Sigurdson to ensure this image was maintained.

I for one like it. I think the £15m for Allen is a no-brainer but we're leaving it last minute to keep up the pretence otherwise other targets will suddenly shoot through the roof.

We definitely want to get rid of Carroll though.
