I think most would have been a little disappointed if Toure was the sole CB we signed this summer as a replacement for Carra and didn't address the issues we had with Skrtel & Agger. They're not very solid together and no one knew whether we'd get a full season from Toure
Not at all, it's an excellent signing. One of the most promising young centerbacks in Europe and one for the future. Big, strong, intelligent, fairly comfortable on the ball and still gettting better on all aspects. Once he is perfectly settled we will have a monster for years. Clever signing, especially because of Agger's injury history, Skrtel's swinging form and trouble getting in to the team in the last couple of seasons and Carra's retirement and Toure's age.

As I've said from day one, I'm thrilled about us signing him.

I’m sad to say it, but we’ll probably recoup most of what we paid on Sakho in Agger and no doubt he’s on less wages. The transfer made perfect sense.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Spot on. Was a huge coup for the club really. Never really thought we could pull off the signing but was delighted we did. He is definitely a marquee signing

I stil think it will be Skrtel who is the one that goes in the window, if the right bid comes in. Him playing well now is doing great things for his transfer value and getting him noticed.

I think the plan may have been to sell Skrtel in January and Agger in the summer. Wouldn't be surprised to see the opposite happen now though although as you say, it may make sense to cash in on Skrtel while his stock is high.

I reckon as well as he's played, he's still prone to lapses and blunders...that one in the penalty box where he was all over the WBA player, I think a stronger ref, or away from home, and that would have been given as a penalty.

                      Thanks Dad.

It was a fairly flippant comment something which you are familiar with I believe?

IMO Skrtel will definitely get sold.. it's good thing that he is playing well as will bring up his value. Personally myself i think Agger/Toure is our best defensive partnership at the moment if both are fully fit. Thing is that the situation has been made awkward by Skrtel playing well & Sakho improving.

This is a good complaint IMO but it is hard to know what team Rodgers thinks is his strongest & hard to keep everyone happy.

Why would we be selling senior players who are playing well? Skrtel got a time out cause he played **** for a while, meanwhile we rejected an approach from Napoli, he got back in the team and has done really well since then. This theory about trying to bring up his price seems ridiculous to me ffs, are we also looking to sell Sturridge for a profit?? Same thing with Agger, he's had a ton of defensive ****-ups since last year, just remember his 'thank you' to Mignolet after the Stoke match. Regardless of that (not just the Stoke match, but overall), we still rejected an approach from Barca, because Agger needs to realise nobody has a guaranteed starting place, before he can return into the starting line up.

We need squad depht, Kolo Toure won't be playing for ever, injuries occur all the time, selling anyone from the current defensive line up would be stupid in my opinion.

                              Generally agree with Daffy

I think Agger had just as many mistakes as Skrtel and that's why I was saying we needed 2 new CBs. He has concentration issues big time. He was at fault for quite a few goals last season too

Because we seem to be getting big earners off the wage bill and seem to be willing listeners if clubs are willing to match our valuations.

We spent a lot of money on Ilori and Sakho, so the books have to evened out. I wish it wasn’t true, but then again I fooled myself into believing Rodgers when he said we’d keep Reina. Did we not block Skrtel to Zenit, purely because we picked up an injury towards the end of the window?
