Sad state of affairs that a new Manager brought in with such fanfare has to sell to buy. What a joke.

im sure brendan knew that there would be quite a few duds to clear out, but im sure he never for one minute thought that they would ever consider selling someone like agger.
of course, if we were to be offered 25-30m then you would be daft not to consider the options.

I don't think the issue is replacing Agger - there are individuals out there that are more than adequate. The bigger picture is how Skrtel adapts to a new partner and whether that complements him (much like Agger did). Then you have to consider the introduction of that new defender to our defensive line, building up that chemistry and understanding etc.

It's the only area of the pitch you really need continuity and we could potentially be breaking that up a couple of weeks before the start of the season. Rodgers already had it tough, but at least before he had a solid foundation to build on; now we've almost took the squad back to brick to build up a whole new team.

What makes it worse is that Agger is a leader on the pitch. Last season, he really stepped up in terms of instructing the players (from what clips they showed) and now, the 'injury' card is being played to support his sale.

I just can't understand why we'd look to sell our best players. If it's true that we're looking to shift Agger then it's a joke and we've now got two pissed off players in our squad in him and Carroll.

Imagine having to build a new defensive backline, add to the midfield and replace an impotent strikeforce. All whilst trying to introduce a new style to the whole set-up.

Well, imagine no more, coz we might have two weeks to get ready for it.

I appreciate that we might need to sell to buy, but surely we could raise a couple of quid and save wages by selling Downing, Adam and Spearing.

Use those funds to buy Joe Allen for £15 million and use the balance (whatever that might be) to purchase a centrehalf

The fact is it is City, Barca and clubs of that ilk that are in for Agger - so you know he is good. Sell him and we have got to replace him, discover another player of his quality for less money. Basically take a punt and hope that the guy we bring in fits in well, and hits the ground running.

Selling Agger would be a massive mistake, and finally cement our position as the new Totenham Hotspurs of the Premiership.

short answer is no purely down to my belief that allen is no more than an average player. if we were to spend the 15-20 mill like the arse have done on carzola (16 mill reported) and the balance on a good centre half like cahill who cost 7 mill then id be over the moon. these top class players are out there and available for similar money.

and for those fees going by a 30 mill price on agger we could 7 mill sitting in the pocket for further reinforcements like sahin
