Rodgers has invited a large bid with the full intention of rebuffing it. It looks better to walk away from a lot of money than to counter any situation where it can be offered.

Agger will see these big money offers going in only for us to say "No". I think the 'price' Rodgers is thinking is almost a few million higher than the highest price offered. In other words, there is no way anyone will meet the price.
    Was muß, das muß.

likely to give agger ideas that we value him enough to pay him what city would have. risky strategy and probably not one i'd have used.

EXCLUSIVE: I would leave Liverpool for Barcelona, admits Man City target Agger
        By John Edwards

Daniel Agger has stunned Liverpool by admitting he could be lured away from Anfield by an approach from Barcelona.

        Shock horror who wouldnt?

The 27-year old defender reiterated his contentment at Liverpool and made it clear he has no real interest in joining Manchester City, despite a failed £20million bid for him from the Barclays Premier League champions.

But, speaking at a media gathering ahead of Denmark’s game against Slovenia, he left a question mark over his Anfield future by saying: ‘Barcelona would be great. They are the one team who would make it difficult for me to stay.’

Sportsmail understands Agger would put an end to the uncertainty in an instant, if Liverpool offered him a new long-term contract that reflected his market value. But the player who has established himself as an accomplished, dependable left-sided centre-back since a £6million move from Brondby in January, 2006, is likely to be kept waiting.

Liverpool have set an asking price of £30million and are prepared to let the remainder of the transfer window unfold, to see if an offer materialises that comes closer to matching their valuation.

Intriguingly, they are thought to be willing to accept a lower figure from Barcelona, and that policy could hasten Agger’s departure after he opened up on how the rest of this month might pan out.

Outlining his mixed emotions, as he described his eagerness to take Liverpool back into Champions’ League contention but admitted he was keeping one eye on interest from the Nou Camp, Agger said: ‘The club and the town (of Liverpool) have been very good to me throughout my time at Anfield. Everything has been handled in a very professional way, and I have always had respect from people round the club and from Liverpool supporters.

‘I have always considered it an honour to play for a club like Liverpool, and that feeling has been strengthened by the way people in the town have stayed solidly behind the team and me, even when things haven’t always gone as they would have hoped.

‘You get a sense of how good and how big this club is when you play for them in the Champions’ League. They are special games, and I believe we can recreate those great nights, hopefully soon.

Good times: Agger believes Brendan Rodgers is the man to revitalise Liverpool's fortunes
'Everyone knows about the ‘80s team, and how they were winning titles every year, and I have a feeling we are not too far off doing the same.

'If I didn’t have that feeling, I wouldn’t still be there. But it is a special club, and it still has that feeling about it.

‘I understand where Luka Modric and Robin Van Persie are coming from (in wanting to move), because your career is short, you want to win things and be successful and you want to earn money. But I really do sense there are great things round the corner for Liverpool.

‘There is one club who would make it very difficult for me to stay at Anfield. Barcelona would be great, because they are the best in the world. But I am feeling great where I am. I’m with a special club, and I feel I am influencing what happens on the pitch. I am happy to be a Liverpool player.’

Funny how the daily hate can get that story out of it, when he has said nothing to that effect at the press conference. All he said was "- Barcelona would be big. They have the greatest football team in the world, so of course it would be big, but I'm feeling good about where I am right now." And the story continues a bit from there. Take the bit out about him saying it would make it diffucult to stay, and the story is more or less the same word for word...

What is there constant agenda against us I wonder?

On a positive note, a Danish reporter that is close to the Spanish teams and reports for them say's Barcelona have dropped their interest in Agger because of the asking price and are focusing on Song.

I can see where you are coming from but all good things come to an end. The test is what you do to move on. We ****ed up, partly I would guess because of the internal problems at the club.

It is also not beyond the realms of possibility that with G&Hat the helm we actually needed the cash at that point to continue. It is easy to forget how close we came to a Leeds like disaster.

@OliverKayTimes on #Agger cont - #LFC are willing to sell. It's just a case of whether City are willing to go as high as that "right price"

No doubts in my mind that City will raise their offer, if they want Agger that bad a few million quid is pockets change for them. Will be devastating news though.

Few reports in Spain that City are making a bid for Diego Godin.

Hopefully this is because they won't go to the asking price for Agger and not just a tactic to try and make us drop the price.

this lad was press linked with us and is at least a viable replacement for less than half the money, should the agger touting raise the 25m+ that the owners are looking for.
maybe city are just reading the papers and following up the leads to where we would have looking
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I feel certain that Agger won't leave, Barca have lost interest because of their lack of funds and he won't go to City.

He has to be seriously forced out to go to another English club. He is very happy at LFC and likes the influence he has on the pitch.

                                Can't see it happening.
