There's a derth of real quality left backs in world football IMO.

Coentrao,Chellini are 2 of the best IMO.

The boy Santon from Inter looks like he'll be a top performer too.

However I don't think we'll have too much trouble finding someone better then PFK

Contreao - Attacking LB, think Glen Johnson. Converted from a LM. Not sure he would be "solid".

Chiellini - Better CB than LB.

Santon - He's a RB.

He's a far better RB than LB. I doubt he'd join to play LB.

I'd personally go for Aly Cissocko, Lahm would be a dream signing. Taye Taiwo, I'd have to look into more, but he was one I knew to have plenty of potential, just not sure how he's progressed.

He's played his best games for inter at left back,impressing Ronaldo when playing against him at left back in one game

The thing with full backs is you have to make a choice these days.Strong defensively or strong attacking.Very rare to find one who attacks and defends very well.Cole,Evra,Coentrao,Alves,Ramos-all great going forward but you'd hardly call them solid defenders.These days you need a strong centre back pairing and a defensive midfielder good enough to cover for the full backs and you'll win games.

I don't think we can get Coentrao neither. Too expensive but I like him. Not a natural LB (converted winger) but had an outstading WC.

He's still at Benfica, isnt he? From that POV, we could get him.

But he'd probably pick someone better than us, who'd no doubt be in for him too.

Benfica would want massive money for Coentrao, and sure why would he come here to play Europa Football (if even) when he can easily go to a club playing top flight footie?? He is not a realistic target and people need to stop dreaming the likes of Aguero, Hazard, Coentrao, Llorente. Short of a miracle its not gonna happen.

The likes of Cahill,Nzogbia etc are more likely options for us in January.
