A lot of people have 'put their hearts on the line' for LFC along the years. Some of them have been gob****es, like Souness, Lawrenson, Redknapp, etc ... do we have to revere them all the way though, or are we allowed to use our critical faculties to see that some of them have been self serving? Are we winning?

All footballers are self serving. Their paid ridiculoud monies to play a game. Souness & Lawro maybe but Redknapp i'm not so sure about.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostA lot of people have 'put their hearts on the line' for LFC along the years. But i have the upmost respect for Jamie Carragher for what he has done for the club, he may be on his way out but the guy is a LFC Legend full stop, he is Liverpool through and through and IMO deserves a bit more respect than what some are giving. i just feel that most of the criticism of Carra is coming from the corner of the LFC fans who are bitter about Carra's so called involvement in Rafa's exit. Just my opinion as you have yours but like isaid even if i think he should be phased out of the first team he still gets my respect as a model professional footballer (which is rare these days) and LFC Legend.

I haven't seen much of this alleged defensive organisational skills you reckon he has in any game this season. He's been shockingly bad all season and last season too for that matter. He's hopeless, past it, slow as **** and is clearly a cancerous influence behind the scenes.Originally posted by danperkins View PostBest out and out defender we have and his organizational skills are streets ahead of any of the defense line we have. LFC legend thats legs have well and truly gone, althoughvery valuable squad player to have, defintely should be phased out of the first team next season into more of a bit part role, so 100% keep as a squad player.
Getting rid of him is ridiculous, IMO its Rafa supporters who feel Carra was behind him getting the boot, who hold the majority of this "get rid of him' opinion. The guy deserves more respect than what he is getting from these LFC fans he has put his heart on the line time after time over the years, ****ing disgrace IMO, some people are very fickle and have short memories.
And as for his being a "legend", don't make me ****ing laugh. Billy Liddell is a legend. Tommy Smith, Emlyn Hughes, Roger Hunt, Dalglish, Rush, Hansen, Gerrard etc - and a fair few others - are true legends. Carragher cannot seriously be mentioned in the same breath as these great players.
Carragher came into the team as a midfield player and wasn't good enough. He then played in both full-back positions and wasn't good enough. He got a CB berth and had a couple of good seasons. Unfortunately his total lack of mobility and playing ability, beyond a mindless hoof towards the horizon, soon found him out and he's now nowhere near good enough to be in a Premier League team's first XI.
He should never have got a £90K a week contract extension. That he did reflects very badly on those responsible. As he's so utterly average these days we're unfortunately stuck with him as no-one else would seriously consider paying him anything remotely like that. Given this sorry situation he shouldn't be allowed to pollute the first-team set-up any longer and should be immediately be relegated to the bench
And what the **** has anyone's opinion of Rafa Benitez got to do with seeing that Carragher is **** and should be ****ed off? It takes a strange leap of faith to arrive at that bizarre conclusion

You've misunderstood me entirely.Originally posted by vlahka View PostFine, then give me your own words on what you mean since you're going to be like that. What exactly do good young players who arent given time in the first team do in the reserves. Aside from get frustrated and look elsewhere for first team football.
I agree that Kelly should get some game time, and that he can play RB, CB or even LB, is a good thing in his favour.
He can play games where needed, he can be on the fringes of the first team squad, playing games when the situation arises, without needing to suddenly be sent straight to the top of the tree, as someone who can replace Carra, to the extent that, where Carra's concerned, we can sell/drop/wrap him in a carpet and roll him off a cliff....etc
Kelly doesnt need to be 1st choice in every game and elavated to the extent whereby we **** carra off - nor does he need to 'rot in the reserves' - there's an easy in between.

This post is the sheer epitome of hyperbolic verbal diarrhea.
"shockingly bad all season"
"hopeless, past it, slow as **** and is clearly a cancerous influence behind the scenes" highly emotive and exaggerated stuff. The stuff of cringeworthy tabloid headlines, in fact.
"He then played in both full-back positions and wasn't good enough" - he was very good in GH's sides, when he played fullback.

He offered nothing going forward, and was only in the left back position when Ziege didn't work out. He was never going to get RB ahead of Babbel, who was ****ing dynamite.Originally posted by Craig_H View Posthe was very good in GH's sides, when he played fullback.
CB was his position, and he benefited from having Sami to learn from (who is a legend, no doubt).

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

It's laughable the way a truly poor footballer is held in the same esteem as true footballing greats just because he is local and 'gets stuck in'. As I have said before, Carragher would stick out like a sore thumb in any of our great teams - He's got no pace, is ****e in the air, and is a crap technically. His only asset is shot-blocking in and around the six-yard box.Originally posted by Redspin View PostI haven't seen much of this alleged defensive organisational skills you reckon he has in any game this season.
