    Blackpool game in Doubt

Liverpool's Boxing Day clash with Blackpool is already an early doubt because of the freezing conditions.

The Reds had their home game against Fulham postponed on Saturday because of the heavy snow which fell in the north-west, and now there is a chance the trip to Bloomfield Road could also fall victim to the elements.

The Premier League newcomers do not have undersoil heating and have already had two matches postponed because of adverse weather.

Blackpool are currently in discussions with the Premier League about procedures ahead of Sunday's match.

"We can almost certainly guarantee the pitch will be playable but it is the prevailing conditions once the covers have been removed and whether the pitch will freeze before the end of the game taking place," chairman Karl Oyston told Sky Sports News.

"That is one we are talking to the Premier League about to see what their standpoint and inspection protocol will be."

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston says undersoil heating is "not a financial consideration".

The Seasiders' clashes with Manchester United and Tottenham at Bloomfield Road - both of which were to be televised - had to be called off due to freezing conditions, but Oyston has stressed there are no immediate plans to address the problem by installing a new heating system beneath the pitch.

"It really is not a financial consideration," Oyston told Sky Sports News.

"These games will be played and we will only know the financial implications once the season is over and we know how many games have been picked for television.

"At the moment, it is not at the forefront of our mindset - spectator and player safety are."

Oyston believes any fixture congestion caused by the rescheduling of the matches is unlikely to trouble Blackpool, who won promotion to the Barclays Premier League for the first time via the Championship play-offs in May.

"I think it's maybe more of an issue for our opponents rather than for ourselves," Oyston said.

"We have just come out of the Championship and we are used to 46 games in a league season, playing Saturday and Tuesday.

"So it is not something that fazes us, but I suppose the bigger clubs and those involved in Europe will have issues."

No way will this go ahead IMO.

Yep, i said the same the other day. It's hard enough getting games on, let alone at some prehistoric ground without undersoil heating.

I can only see this as a plus as it gives us more time to get Gerrard and Agger back in contention, also Aurelio getting fitter (dunno wanna jinx it). Anyone know news of Danny Agger?

This is terrible news. Hodgson might make it to January now.

Agreed. These are all games we're more likely to pick up points in under our new manager in the new year.

Actually scratch that, i dread to think what Roy will do with Meireles when Gerrard comes back.

Yep, but I dont think a postponement here would be good for him. As hapless he is away from home this is the one away game left he might actually scrape a win from (and maybe West Ham).

He had 4 games of Fulham home, Blackpool away, Wolves home, Bolton home which could have brought him some time.

Wolves home, Bolton home, Blackburn away, Man Utd away he wont be so lucky.

No sign of a thaw and Blackpool have the only pitch in the Premier League without undersoil heating IIRC.

There is no chance this game will go ahead, if it comes down to fans safety.
Nevermind the snow yesterday, up here you were risking your life just walking on the pavements. Useless council left it till sunday to start clearing up some of the ice. A JCB was removing snow/ice on the sunday morning and then it snowed in the afternoon
