I see a lot on here are very keen on Andre Villas Boas. I don't know much about him but he does certainly seem a good choice. Unbeaten in 30 odd matches at Porto, attractive style of play and "flawless English" by all accounts due to an English grandmother. I fear I may draw ridicule when I also point out that he actually "looks the part" but when you stand him next to the current daft, face rubbing sack of **** we currently have bouncing around our technical area you may see what I mean.

Yeah, he has presence, unlike the Silver Squirrel, and that's not at all unimportant..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOriginally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostVillas Boas has signed a one year extension at Porto. Forget that one.
Also looks like we are in for Carlton Cole - Roys choice. I'm getting the impression Roy will be here for a very long time to come.
Tried to find a picture to go along with the no and came across rijkaard and a few others with tattoos, torres too.

A one year extension doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostVillas Boas has signed a one year extension at Porto. Forget that one.

Can't be any worse than ****ing Royston Dodgebucket. This is a no brainer IMO.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

The amount of players who retired from the Wales squad during his time as the manager speaks volumes about his man management skills.
On top of that, he's probably more of an old school manager that Hodgson.

As José Mourinho looks to sharpen his glowing star deep in the city of Madrid, his close confidant and astute comrade, André Villas Boas aged just 33 is attempting to gain success at his former club, FC Porto.
After being stripped of two stalwarts, defender Bruno Alves and midfielder Raul Meireles during the summer, Villas Boas has led the club to a perfect record of eleven wins in eleven games playing a system familiar to all Mourinho and Chelsea fans, albeit a far more fluid 4-3-3 where wingers are expected to make more of a goalscoring contribution to the team. Regardless of his experience, who exactly is André Villas Boas?
In 1994, FC Porto quickly hired the late Sir Bobby Robson along with the then-translator José Mourinho as his assistant, following Robson's swift firing from fierce rivals Sporting Lisbon. Robson, at the time, took an apartment in the same block as the Villas Boas family where a young 17 year old Villas Boas, following the final whistle, would compose a dossier which compiled tactical analysis highlighting what decisions were correct, where players are better utilised and so on, which would be posted in Robson's letterbox.
Remarkably, Robson recognised Villas Boas when they met in an elevator where Robson expressed his amusement in Villas Boas' passion and meticulous detail in football. Robson's kind hearted nature led to Villas Boas witnessing the Porto players train and also arranging work experience at Ipswich Town under George Burley.
Perfecting a good command of English through a Geordie grandmother, Villas Boas stayed in England to complete his coaching badges in Lilleshall before returning to Porto to coach the youth team.
Possibly one of the unusual achievements in Villas Boas' career was when he was appointed technical director of the British Virgin Islands at 21, making him the youngest football manager on the international stage. Though it was an embarrassing period with results like a 9-0 thrashing to Bermuda coming against him, the experience was anything but and established his appetite for coaching.
Villas Boas' big break may have not come had it not been for another coach looking for his opening in top class management. Mourinho was appointed head coach of Porto in 2002 where he promoted Villas Boas to an assistant role from youth coach whereby his task would be to observe the opposition, a role which he continued to play whilst following Mourinho at Chelsea and Inter Milan.
While Mourinho has received praise for his impeccable organisation on the pitch and training field, Villas Boas would spend four days preparing a report dissecting the opposition from their strengths, weaknesses, patterns of play and with recommendations on how set pieces should be marked and which players can be targeted.
Villas Boas said: "My work enables Jose to know exactly when a player from the opposition team is likely to be at his best or his weakest. I travel to training grounds, often incognito, and then look at our opponents' mental and physical state before drawing my conclusions and presenting a full dossier. Jose is obsessed with detail. He will leave nothing to chance, even if his team are playing against the worst side in the league."
Though he does lack the personality and charisma of Mourinho, the experience of working under one of the great successful managers in this century does hold its weight. When Academica came calling, Villas Boas seized upon the opportunity to implement his own philosophy on football. Though not achieving huge success (eleventh in a sixteen team league and semi final of the Portuguese Cup), it was enough to attract the Porto directors to the club.
Compared to his magnetic mentor's need for efficiency and pragmatism, the cool persona of Villas Boas champions 'creativity, intelligence and organisation' which illustrates the two men's ideologies on how the game should be played. His efforts to step out of the shadow of his former boss will be difficult with comparisons constantly being made.
While many teenagers will look upon football management games to live their dream, Villas Boas has switched off the computer and has made his dream a reality.
