As the weatherman says, clearing the debt is a pretty major thing. Plus, it's funny how when G&H were in charge everyone was saying that they were clueless about the value and the club was worth way less than they thought, but now that it suits your particular argument NESV got the club 'on the cheap'. Wish that G&H had received more for it? No? Thought not.

That`s why they hire recruitment agencies to find the right persons. With the right person at the top at the club a proper manger will be easier to find.

Whereas giving a caretaker manager a lump of cash to spend is a positive thing? It's not just about sacking Hodgson, it's about who replaces him and in what capacity. We need more than a stop-gap manager if we're going to turn this around properly, and you can't sort that out in an afternoon.

I am convinced that many caretakers mentioned before can actually achieve better results with this massively underperforming squad though, it's just setting the team up right and push them forward up the pitch - just those two adjustments would make wonders IMO.

A caretaker manager would'nt get to spend any money though would he, Commolli would be doing the spending for Jan, as i already suspect he is anyway.

Players would be bought for the club by the club, untill a proper serious candidate is identified, then they can talk about players HE would like to bring in when he takes the job full time.

I don't disagree - although as said it's not guaranteed - but what about acquiring new players? We all agree that we need new blood in this window, but after the farce of the summer (bar Raul) I'd want to know that the person spending the money was going to spend in the right way. The alternative - no new players, PFK and Poulson still around - makes me feel slightly queasy.

But Commoli can only spend effectively when he knows what the manager's long term plan is, surely? Which players would we buy 'for the club' when a new manager might turn up with a system where they are completely redundant? And would NESV have the budget to do that kind of 'double-dip' spending?

I'm not suggesting that you should know the answers - I sure as hell don't - but I worry that we will end up entirely without direction if we're not careful.

I think part of the question is how we plan to make the DoF/manager relationship work. If we intend to have a 'club style' then we should select a manager that fits that and potentially have Comolli in charge of most purchases with the coach having input about specific requirements. Obviously there are many ways it could be organised but generally I agree with you about needing time to judge FSG/NESV.

The one problem I see is that we have only a short transfer window and whoever is in charge will require at least a couple of recruits. If we persist with Hodgson, even short term, we need a targetman. So they have to make some sort of move in the next month no matter what. Doing nothing at all is an active decision here in the circumstances and in my view a bad one.

Dont think we really need players, just play a formation that suits the current crop we've got, IMO 4-2-3-1 fits better now than last year with the arrival of Raul. System they know well from previous seasons and with their national sides (most sides use that system now).

If quality players come available than that would be up to Comolli really.

I think the problem becomes that we currently lack a useful option with pace and or trickery from deep or width. We also have issues in terms of balance at the back. I don't think an overhaul of the squad is necessarily what is required but one or two signings to get the squad balance right are.

Agree, Aguero and Coentrau should be enough
