    Well said fella

If you stand still in this game you'll suffer.
We've seen that in the last year and a half ourselves and things will only get worse if these problems aren't addressed.

Every man and their dog knows this Liverpool squad needs an overhaul.

They havent become bad players in 20 months.
      Key point right there.

In another month we may be better placed to comment on the squad. The ones seen as weak may be moved on if possible by Kenny and he'll have a couple of new faces in hopefully to make the team stronger.

With the new players added and a different approach to the game we may start to look like a good team again. This will bring confidence flooding back and players we've been so annoyed at may in fact spring a few suprises.

Lucas played in CM v Man Utd in the 4-1 win. One of Masch or Alonso did not play. Both played v Real Madrid though I think. Also missing from the Manc game is Arbeloa. The remaining lot remain.

We've basically gone from title challengers to 6th at best, possible relegation candidates. I don't buy that. Players we assume to have regressed since then may suprise a few people over the coming weeks/months, not least Fernando Torres who has been starved of service to the point he's been going mad.

It has some average players in the squad but so does every team in the league. It is missing some key players such as a LB and a good back up striker if we go 4231, if we go 442 we are also missing a top class partner for Torres.

Add those players and under the right leadership we'd do well.

After that you can start looking at dropping the likes of Maxi and one of the CB's and CM's to the bench. Add a quality winger, a top draw solid CB and a quality holding mid and you have a title challenging team and squad - if we let the worst players go and keep our best available ones.

          Team

          --------------Reina-------------
          Glen-----NEW-------Agger--NEW
          ---------NEW-----Meireles------
          Kuyt---------Gerrard--------NEW
          --------------Torres-------------

Leaves the likes of Kelly, Skrtel, Lucas, Cole, Maxi, Babel, N'Gog and the new back up striker competing for starting positions. That's 8 players mentioned there who would be excellent players to have on the bench. Obviously we'd have a back up keeper on the bench and so you'd have two good players not even making the bench, not to mention I haven't even included players like Aurelio and Jovanovic, plus there's Poulsen and Konchesky nowhere even near that squad.

Plus we have yioung lads like Spearing, Shelvey, Pacheco, Ecclestone and a bit behind, Suso, Sterling, Ngoo etc.

          Sign:

          LB
          CB
          CDM
          LM
          ST

Get quality players in and we are talking about a seriously strong squad. A major overhaul is not needed.

I think needing 4 new starting players is a fairly major overhaul...

A major overhaul would be shipping out something like ten players and bringing in the same amount, something we don't need to do. Ideally we would, but we don't need to.

We probably don't need 4 new starting players either, but that's what I'd aim for. We could probably manage without the CB for next season and see how Kelly and Wilson develops. We could see how Meireles and Lucas do in CM - we might not need a top class DM. Again, we could see how Shelvey and Spearing develop as they might turn out good enough to be back ups, though I would likely replace Poulsen personally with another CM.

Then at LM, well maybe under Kenny one of Jova, Babel or Joe Cole will get a new lease of life, or maybe Maxi will continue to show improvement.

What we definitely need is a top class LB and a good back up striker. But we don't at this point in time need a major overhaul.

Of course they were both excellent players for their positions.

But are Mascherano and Alonso the difference between 2nd and 12th? Are they genuinely worth 10 league placings?

                Not so sure about that.

Dont think we need 4 new first teamers.

If you sign the right players, 2 new 1st teamers would make the difference.

Don't want to bang on about this topic but yeah i'd also agree that putting 4 new players straight into the first team is bit of an overhaul.

Oh and the tit who laughed off my suggestion that Zabaleta is a player we could go for it, quite clearly knows nothing about football because he's a very good player.

No it's not, it's pure Sky Sports induced bollocks.

                        Love you're reasoning there Nige.

Well actually maybe this Liverpool squad doesn't need any changes whatsoever...if the aim is to finish between 6th and 10th every season.

You said we're 'far from having an effective football team'. By effective you mean finishing second or 1st?

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Nah, to challenge for the top 4 places.

I think this season we could well have challenged for a top 4 place had we not had that buffoon in charge.
