If LFC had gone about your way all those years a go we may never have been dominant.

I say it's always best to keep an open mind. Get the best man for the job be they in house or from a far.
    Forwards.......

After it was mentioned on 5Live yesterday lunchtime there was a throw away comment along the lines of there could be a transition at the end of the season with Dalglish playing a similar role to Paisley when Dalglish too over. That wouldn't be transitioning to an established big manager.

            great appointment of clarke.

he will work well with kenny and if if if kenny succeeds and gets a long term contract (fingers crossed) then clarke can stay.
if if if kenny fails then with clarke at the club jose might want to join too (fingers double crossed) and acheive what a true legend couldnt!!

its amazing how my mood has gone from utterly pissed off and downbeat to so optimistic and happy with the appointment of one man . . . . . . kenny u leg-end!!!!
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Delighted with his appointment. Moreso since the dickhead Chelsea fan at work got pissed off that we'd got him
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

TEAMtalk's Simon Wilkes feels Liverpool's appointment of Steve Clarke as first-team coach is a masterstroke by new manager Kenny Dalglish.

The news of Kenny Dalglish's return to the Liverpool hot-seat broke within minutes of my arrival at the office just after 11am on Saturday - and I must admit my immediate reaction was that Reds owner John Henry was right to sack Roy Hodgson, but wrong to appoint the 59-year-old Anfield legend.

Hodgson was seemingly up against it from the minute he took the reins, with a large majority of supporters not feeling he was a big enough name for the club.

The free-transfer signing of Joe Cole and commitment of talismanic pair Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to the club provided a brief moment of acceptance for the former Fulham boss - but the minute he mentioned how many hours he was having to work, I knew he was a dead man walking.

To be Liverpool manager you need to eat, sleep and breathe the club. Although Rafael Benitez had his faults, there was never any doubt that he had Red blood running through his veins.

With Hodgson, you sensed he was almost annoyed by the constant glare of the media spotlight which shone on him, and press conferences increasingly became a chore in which he dropped one gaffe after another.

There is no question that he is a talented manager, but Fulham was a perfect fit for him as he was clearly allowed to work at his own pace, get his training sessions done and then potter about the club, with Mohammed Al Fayed unlikely to be sticking his nose into his day-to-day business.

Dalglish is the man Henry has chosen to steer the good ship Liverpool through the stormy waters of the coming months - and in a matter of days, the Scot has convinced me it will be a cracking appointment.

Many Reds fans have pointed out on our TEAMtalk boards that when Dalglish walked into the Liverpool dugout at Old Trafford on Sunday, it just seemed right, as did the Reds team-sheet which all of a sudden had a balanced look to it.

Many Reds fans have been calling for Martin Kelly to be first-choice right-back and for Daniel Agger to play at centre-back.

Both requests were met, and Fabio Aurelio lined up at left-back - with Paul Konchesky highly unlikely to pull on a Red shirt again anytime soon.

It will be interesting to see what the new boss does with Glen Johnson, but his praise of Kelly and the youngster's fine display means he could well be sold this month or converted into a marauding right winger.

Dalglish's new reign got off to a dismal start thanks to two controversial decisions from Howard Webb - but Liverpool need to quickly forget about those and the FA Cup exit and look to a brighter future in the coming months.

Dalglish may have been out of the game for over 10 years - but his sheer presence and standing in the game means he has already charmed the media, coming across well in his first few forays back in front of the microphone.

Monday morning represents a fresh start to the week, and the Scot has got off to a flyer, praising his players despite the cup defeat and vowing to 'get going' on Torres in a bid to restore the Spaniard's shattered confidence.

But the masterstroke came at around 10.30am on Monday, when Dalglish expressed his "delight" at the appointment of Steve Clarke as his first-team coach at Anfield.

Weekend rumours had linked fellow Reds legends Ian Rush and Phil Thompson with a Dalglish reunion - but the arrival of Clarke means he is getting someone who has gained a wealth of relevant, recent experience working at West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea.

Clarke worked alongside Jose Mourinho during the Special One's trophy-laden spell at Stamford Bridge, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two Carling Cups with the Portuguese tactician.

Clarke will no doubt be the driving force in training sessions, leaving Dalglish to do what he does best - picking the team and hammering home how privileged the players are to be wearing the famous Red shirt.

Dalglish's aura matches that of Sir Alex Ferguson, and the atmosphere at Anfield for Sunday's Merseyside derby with Everton - his first home game - is going to be a spine-tingling one for all fans of the beautiful game.

Liverpool have massively underperformed as a team so far this season, but the fact of the matter is they are only eight points behind sixth-placed Sunderland with another 18 league clashes to come.

Their next five assignments sees them face Blackpool (a), Everton (h), Wolves (a), Fulham (h) and Stoke (h) before a tricky trip to London for a clash with champions Chelsea - so that points total and league placing is likely to look a lot healthier in a few weeks' time.

If the Reds can pocket all three points from their trip to the seaside - where they will be gunning for revenge after being undone at Anfield - then it could be a springboard for a resurgence that sees Dalgish not only stay in charge for the rest of the season - but for many years to come.

                .

Reluctant to say something positive about The Bodge, but I'm sure I read that he had already picked the team.

                    Terrible article. For example:

"Hodgson was seemingly up against it from the minute he took the reins, with a large majority of supporters not feeling he was a big enough name for the club. "

Nothing to do with big name. Competence is the main criteria for anyone doing any job.
                    Oh I don't know.

This is an interesting point, Kelly was praised and rightly so maybe with Kenny at the helm we might well see Jonno playing infront of him.

TBF, that's about the only questionable point in the article. I thought it was a pretty good article.
