    Players who can score goals

Watching the Blackpool game it struck me how few players we have who are capable of getting goals. We have 25 Premiership goals this season.

    Our top Premiership scorers are:

    Torres.....6
    Gerrard....4
    Maxi........3
    Kuyt........3
    Ngog.......2
    Kyriakos...2

That's not good enough, two of those players (Ngog and Kyriakos) don't play regularly. Meaning we have 4 players who are any kind of goal threat, One of whom is suspended.

We need more players capable of chipping in with a decent number of goals surely there can't be many clubs who have so many players who contribute so few goals? We need to bring in players ho can do this in the window, and I don't just mean strikers.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Definitely an area we need to address when we look at the transfer market.

Benayoun was a player who chipped in with goals too, and he went. Seriously need to improve here. We lack players who create and we lack players who can score. All in all, a terrible recipe if you want to win games.

That looks quite pathetic when you see it in black and white. We're toothless aren't we?!

We have been for quite a long time really, I can't remember when we really had a good number of players who'd be goal threats on a regular basis. Players who've left like Mascher, Alonso, Riera and so on were never regular threats; Benny and Garcia could be counted on for a few but we've ben massively overreliant on Torres and Gerrard for a long time, with only Kuyt, Ngog and Babel really likely to chip in of the others (and unlikely to all play at once). Lucas doesn't score much, Cole, Merieles and Maxi all should have the tools but in practice so far in their Anfield careers haven't done a great deal infront of goal.... its not a good state of affairs.

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
            Mine angry and defrauded young?

Yeah its been a long, long time since we had regular goal scorers throghout the team and, as far as i can remember, those days were when Rushie, Dalglish, Fowler, Mc'manaman, and i hate to say Owen etc, they were the days

I think it has a lot to do with players getting into goal scoring positions. Our midfielders have always played so deap so never really have had a look in.

We are reliant on Torres and Gerrard because our wingers tend to cut in and play balls in for the two to score because that is all they can do, they lack the ability to beat players and make it into positions where they too can score.

In s 4231 the wide players should really be looking to get amongst the goals. It's why I keep wanting Babel to play. He's probably the biggest threat we have. Bit gutted for Meireles. He's struggling to adapt in a losing team and I feel if he got one goal he'd be doing a lot better.

Cole is obviously one player who is capable of adding to that if given game time, but in his career (12 seasons) only 3 times has he scored more than 5 goals in all competitions. I guess Babel is capable too if given game time.

In 2007-08 we had 6 players who made it into double figure (in all competitions) Torres 33; Gerrard 21; Crouch 11; Benayoun 11; Kuyt 11; Babel 10

The attacking three behind Torres should be scoring regularly and providing assists. Gerrard does when he's behind Torres but the options to the right and left are piss poor, kuyt is finished and we made a mistake letting Yossi go. Two positions that need sorting straight away.

IMO the wings need strengthening asap. We will get by in midfield i feel, not that im happy about that, but if money is tight the wings and a centre back are a must to salvage the season.

Those are the players that cost more money and we haven't had that for quite some time now, so that's understandable.
                              Are we winning?
