We were shocking with him. I don't see how reverting to an ultra-defensive system is going to do any good, unless you think we are in a dogged relegation scrap and have to eek out hard-fought 0 - 0 draws against the likes of West Ham and Wolves, while praying for a miracle against the likes of Stoke and Sunderland.

It's just a sign of how some fans have become conditioned to ultra defensive football I suppose, that they start going cold turkey when we try and open things up a bit and inevitably look a bit more vulnerable; hoofs are regarded as comforting as a hot water bottle and some Farley's rusks.

That's a load of ****. Skrtel is the least cultured defender we have, The Greek is a useful back-up, but not a first teamer. Johnson isn't a defender, so who else other than Agger do we have who excels in defence? Carragher is the best we have, he controls the defence. I don't need to explain why organising the back line is important, I'm sure you know that anyway. We are a shambles when Carragher's not playing.

Seriously - johnson would be fine if we had a proper defence and team around him - ie, the other 3 defenders were solid and we had someone in midfield who can cover the ground quickly and put tackles in to cover any defender going forward and break up attacks - then the bench would something like

a keeper
carra
aurelio
lucas
cole
new striker
ngog

keep maxi, one of skrtel/kyriakos, and the youngsters kelly shelvey pacheco and bring in a couple other players to improve squad/feel gaps -

Not being rude or out but, we deffo need a better calibre of player to replace him as he's only fit for a third of a season at best, surely there's someone better out there

I think you'll find that the whole defence is more organised when Carra is in the team, ok, its time we need to replace him with someone of his leadership and dominece thats seen him organise the back four for years but, to make a silly comment like that is quite absurd

If the defence is getting no protection from the midfield than we're always going to give up lots of oppotunities for the opposition to hurt us, no matter who is organising the defence. Calling for the saftey blanket won't change things.

If the defence isn't organised then it impacts on the whole team, even you're not stupid enough to deny that.

If the defence is glued to the 18 yard box then it makes the whole game more difficult for us, and easier for the opposition. Even you're not stupid enough to deny that, are you?

Carragher is a better shot-blocker and is braver, but in terms of football ability Sktel is way better. I'd say only Soto is a worse footballer than Carragher.

I thought Torres was fantastic tonight, on his own. Not enough quality in the team to get the ball to him IMO.

Except Lucas and Raul on moments last night we didn't have a player that can create a decent pass.
