Liverpool's Luis Suarez reveals he is 'Jekyll and Hyde' on and off the pitch
Forward admits to rebellious nature but is a far quieter person off the pitch despite past controversies, including biting an opponent and headbutting a referee
Liverpool’s new no.7 Luis Suarez has impressed since his goalscoring debut against Stoke City but has admitted he is a different man off the pitch.
The Uruguayan player has a controversial record ever since he headbutted a referee, breaking his nose, after being sent off while playing with his first club Nacional at the age of fifteen.
He was also dubbed the 'Ajax Cannibal' after biting PSV player Otman Bakkal in the neck in November, for which he was handed a seven-game ban.
However, his wife Sofia is adamant that he is a saint off the pitch but the striker himself admits that he has a “Jekyll and Hyde” personality
"Yes, there's an enormous difference in my behaviour," Suarez told News of the World.
"On the pitch I feel like I'm a little bit of a rebel, someone who is always going to do something perhaps slightly mad. I really hate losing. This game is always about winning isn't it?
"I even want to win playing games with Sofia. I can't help it. But everyone behaves differently on and off the field."
Suarez was also subject to criticism for handballing the ball away in Uruguay’s World Cup game against Ghana which earned his national team a spot in the semi-finals. However, his close family believe that Suarez is a completely different together person at home.
He featured in a famous TV show documentary in Holland in February where presenter Ivo
Niehe showed the slums of Montevideo, where Suarez was brought up.
His sister Giovanna said: "He is the quietest of all of us” before his brother Paulo and his mother Sandra added: "He barely says a word.”
His wife also said: "He really is a saint. You can tell by his face if he's won or lost.
“That is when I try to avoid him. Now I can gauge his mood and can tell just when to start communicating with him again."
**** me, looks nothing like him, more like the lovechild of Maxi and Lucas. Obviously Suarez is jumping but from that pic you could never tell. If you were to remove the name and number from the back of his top, I don't think any supporter could guess who it was if they hadn't already seen the picture.
It is a nice shot though.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
