Both of those 2 comments are bollocks.
The first one: "Cant see them ever getting back into the top four unless they get some big financial backing"
'ever' ?? We've had a minimal net spend since the current owners came in, and we're only 6 points off it now, and that is with our worst league start in over 50 years.
Second one: "Their current side arent good enough to challenge for a top four spot" Again, nonsense. We are CURRENTLY challenging for a top four spot. If we'd beaten Wolves and Everton at home, and just ONE of Blackburn or Blackpool away, we'd currently BE in the top four.
Pure nonsense, both of those comments from City fans.

I'd say that, given that I work In Sunderland and live in Newcastle, I'm more informed about those two teams than people who live in Sunderland or Newcastle and who support those teams are about Liverpool.
That said, since those fans in particular seem to spend an inordinate amount of time floating about in Toyland (figuratively speaking of course) it's debatable as to whether their perceptions about their own teams can carry any weight.
(apply the same to Liverpool fans living in Mancland or Laaaandan Taaaawn for similar impact)
Yeah, fair point about being in the 'catchment area' of another team. Stuff must filter through the red goggles.
Like I've said before, both the whole H&G disaster and the Hodgson debacle have really made me hold back on judging fans of other teams. It became obvious that the vast majority of those outside the fanbase - journalists, pundits, fans of other clubs - simply had so little knowledge about the facts of the club and that their interpretations of what might be happening at the club were based on inaccurate premises and, often enough, downright lies. In fact, even those who might be expected to know better, people who should know more about the club, i.e. ex-players, are often amazingly ignorant of the basic facts (e.g. Keegan's belief that FSG appointed Hodgson).
So I'm now loath to slag off other fans as being out of touch or deluded or anything. Even Newcastle fans who think they're 'gan to win the league' (and actually I haven't heard a single comment like that since they got promotion this time).
I used to think Spurs fans were stupid for putting style above results all too often. Well, I still think Liverpool demands a different balance but that's because it's a different club. Spurs fans know their traditions and values better than I do.
And, now I think about it, my views on other clubs have also been affected by the media misrepresentation of Benitez - the lies told about him just show how little faith we can have in anything repeatedly pushed through the media.
We're fans and we've got a lot in common with other fans, probably more than we like to think. If we want them to respect us then maybe we need to respect them a bit more than we do..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Number 1: Not all football fans talk nonsense about other clubs. Some do. Some dont. Some talk nonsense about their own club too.Originally posted by BG1973 View Postof course but they are football fans, and football fans talk nonsense about other clubs. Par for the course.

With the ****ty league as it is and us playing poorly as we did until Kenny came if we had only won against Blackpool and Wolves at home and for example took all 3 points against Gunners in the first game, which we should have, we would be ahead of both Chavs and Spurs.
And if we didn't drop any points against Neverton and Sunderland at home we would be only 5 points away from ManU..Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Craig you started this thread hoping that most people would also pile into the Citeh fans and proclaim you to be correct. Unfortunately everyone disagreed with you.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI didnt realise how badly the success (not actual 'winning trophies' success, but you know...) had gone to their heads....

i used to work with some city fans. including a couple of season ticket holders.
generally they were nice blokes and admit to just enjoying the ride under the current owners. The ones i know are not that convined by Mancini and have a soft spot for LFC if for nothing else the fact we both hate the scum.
Now some have got a bit carried away with all the money and think they are destined to win everything.
In that thread posted i didnt say anything too far from what has been said on here by LFC supporters. Also look at what we say about other clubs and i am not sure we are always the paragon of virtue that we like to think we are.

They should, whether they are a threat for the title i don't know, but they are definately a threat to us, anyone who thinks otherwise is mad. imo.Originally posted by Alex View PostIm not really that bothered about what Man-Cunting-City think of us. They still dont really register with me as a threat for the coming years.
edit: Tbh, they are a threat for the title over the coming years too, stupid to think otherwise imo, it's sad, but it's true, money will buy them that much, getting over the finishing line and winning the thing is another matter, but a threat they will be for sure, and for years and years to come.Last edited by Vermilion; 10-02-11, 08:45 PM.
