Mourinho has done well wherever he has been but he has also been heavily backed, probably he has been at the highest spending club in the league where he has been successful (Chelsea, Inter, not sure about Porto but I'd imagine they were one of the top spending clubs in Portugal). It will be interesting to see what happens when the financial fair play rules come in, IMO he won't be as successful but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
My other issue with him is he is a short term solution yes he is successful, but he buys old, established (expensive) players who will last a few successful years before the team needs completely rebuilding. This is the opposite of the model our owners want to work with and is the reason why he won't be Liverpool manager. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Liverpool Football Club exists to win trophies.Originally posted by Arn View PostFor me Liverpool FC is so much more than just trophies. Sure it is excellent when we win them but it isn't the most important point. The most important point is continue as much we possibly can to keep our values.
Some people want Mourinho as our next manager. The club may win a trophy or two with him in charge but the club would also be a laughing stock. It wouldn't be Liverpool FC anymore. It would be Mourinho FC.
Trophies, trophies, trophies. Is it really so important that we should give up everything that is Liverpool FC?
A big no would be my answer.
FSG should of course look at what is best in financial terms for the club and what is the best long term for the club but they must also keep in mind that it is Liverpool FC and not just a plastic club like Chelsea.
Liverpool FC is a club built to win trophies but it is also a club built to make the supporters proud to be supporters of Liverpool FC. We simply can't give up everything that we love about our club just for some trophies.
Mourinho may be the special one but we are a club you as a supporter can walk down the street holding your head high and be proud being a supporter of Liverpool FC.
Liverpool FC, more than just trophies, much much more.

Without trophies LFC would never have become the international and famous club, that a person from Sweden would ever gain any interest in, so in that sense the foundation of Liverpool today is the succes of the 70's and 80's.
I agree that it has more to it, with it's values, community around it etc. but trophies is an essential in what LFC are today and will determine what it will be down the line.

Good post, LFC is a special Club for many a reason but part of that is because the Club has been so successful in the past in terms of Trophies: 18 League, 5 European Cups....the most successful Club in British football.Originally posted by Arn View PostFor me Liverpool FC is so much more than just trophies. However it's now 2011 and we haven't won **** in nearly 5 years, it's about time that changed. The Europa League obviously isn't the Holy Grail so to speak but it would be a start.
I'm not referring to your post here as i do agree with it, it's just i find it all a bit cringeworthy when Liverpool fans continually go on about past successes, the Liverpool way etc...that's all well and good and certainly our past should never be forgotten, but we're clinging on to it too much now due to our recent failings.
That's the way i see it anyway.
