Florent unsure of Spain switch
By Mark Kendall - Created on 8 Feb 2007
Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle is pleased with his loan spell at Recreativo de Huelva, but is unsure whether he will be making a permanent switch.
The Frenchman left Anfield in the summer to try his luck for the season with newly-promoted La Liga outfit Recre and has really caught the eye with his performances in Spain.
Indeed, like his club - who sit seventh in La Primera challenging for a European place - Sinama-Pongolle has proved one of the revelations of the Spanish season, netting seven goals to date.
He is just three behind the club's record top-flight haul (10 by Raul Molina), and has achieved that without being a regular starter in recent weeks.
Having been restored to Recre's starting line-up last weekend, he duly obliged with the second goal in a 2-1 home win over Villarreal and insists he has no problems with manager Marcelino's selection policy.
"If I have not been in the starting XI for the last few weeks it's because of the competition we have here," he explained.
"Here you have to wait for your opportunity and I hope to have demonstrated to the coach that he can count on me."
The 22-year-old is more than happy with life in Spain but remains cautious about the prospect of a permanent move from Liverpool.
Indeed, he remains in close contact with Reds boss Rafa Benitez who is maintaining a close eye on his progress.
"I am happy here, but my future depends on an agreement between Recre and Liverpool," he continued.
"We don't know what will happen because I understand two businessmen have just bought Liverpool.
"Everything depends on whether the ball keeps going in the net."
Of Benitez, he added: "He always rings me when I score and asks me how I am. We get on well and he gives me advice"

I doubt he rings Le Tallec, Cisse or any of the others...
I'm not convinced we've seen the last of Pongolle in a Liverpool shirt.

Agreed, but not sure he'd settle for 3rd/4th choice now he's getting more regular first team action, I mean look how often Robbie has played this season, aren't going to be many strikers happy with the situations he's in.Thomas Hicks Senior

i think he has plans for Flo aswell. He's the only one that he had faith in, and this loan move seems to have done him the world of good. I hope he comes back here, he is such a livewire, and is one of our few players with pace and skill. The game always turned up a level when he came onto the pitch.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostVery interesting.

Unless we buy a new world class striker we need him back here. If we do sign a top notch striker, i really cant see much room left for him. He wont want to sit on the bench anymore, knowing that he could be playing regulary in Spain.
Will be interesting to see what happens on this one."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah
"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." Nicey

if we do get a world class striker, with pace......i think bellamy will go as he isnt going to be happy getting splinters on his ass. That would move Pongo up to 3rd choice and think he would be happy with that._____________________________________

If that's the case, i can certainly say for a fact that Rafa's man-management skill far surpass that of the ginger bollocks that lost to spain on wednesday Which makes you think... does Rafa call up Diao whenever he had a '6' rating in Stoke's local paper?

I doubt that Rafa has Diao's number but thats an interesting article.
Pongolle is doing well in Spain and I'd like to see him come back next season and be given his chance. By the sound of it Rafa hasn't just loaned him out to get him off the wage bill, he is there for experience and hopefully will have a future with us.Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.
Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Pongolle scores again
Pongolle popped up with another one tonight, albeit a penalty.
That's 8 goals in 19 games this season, extremely impressive considering only 11 of those have been starts, in a fairly average Recreativo Huelva side.
If Pongolle is willing to come back next season as a fourth choice striker, I think Rafa should consider it, if not I hope we get a decent price for him, anything over 4m would be acceptable...
