At this moment neither are really good enough if we want to truely kick on to the next level. But at least Jay would be happy to play a more reserve roll.
Does he really need to offer anything going forward? We have people in the side to bring us attacking threat and goals, it isnt Lucas' role.

        Absolutely.

        An interest statistic,

Lucas Leiva's 8 tackles v Man City last night took his total to 139 for the 2010-11 PL season, more than any other player

Lucas has become one of my favourite players.

          There, I said it.

Only 6 yellows for Lucas in 139 tackles. Scholes he aint.

              But then who is?
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Good stat. Is there a breakdown percentage of successful tackles vs unsuccessful ones?

Yep, and most of his passes still go forward.

He does a simple, yet crucial job, very very well. Break up the play, win the ball, give it. Hamann-esque.

I don't think he can have anything more than a fringe role at the club.
