I think Jay has been outperforming himself of recent, can't expect him to be amazing every game, especially against the second best team in the league.

The difference between Lucas and Spearing is as pronounced as the difference we saw between Mascherano and Sissoko.

His passing is poor. He tries hard and soforth, but not getting in an experienced DM to help out in central midfield is yet another goof from this management team.

one who will no doubt be sub most games next season I dont think experienced players would want that or we could go back for Poulsen?, waste of money I think although it does harm us a bit this season we have a superb one injured and hopefully come back as strong next season if not think again in the summer closer to Lucas's return, better money be spent in other areas

He's not crap just had a very bad day. He will never be a starter but can do a job. Only a squaddie but IMO a decent squad player to have.

Regardless of the mistake we didn't lose today because of his poor play alone.

We had quite a few that failed to deliver and to me it's not fair to label him a scapegoat for our defeat.

Spearing had a bad game today but the fact that it's even worthy of discussion shows how much his game has come on In the last 12 months.

Comparing Lucas and Spearing is like comparing fillet steak and mutton!!!

Lucas even in his early days (even though some didn't think so) had something about him and for me was always going to come good - Spearing who is only 2 years younger than Lucas offers nothing and is never likely to IMO.

If Spearing is the type of player we can expect to see in a Liverpool shirt as a norm, then we as fans better get used to missing out on the Champions League on a very regular basis.

Jay had a shocker yesterday, but he was'nt the only one. He's a squad player, simple as.

I think we lost the game because of his below par performance (not to say he was the culprit - those things happen). United exploited the space behind him.

I really think Spearing mostly needs experience. Don't think he'll be a world beater but even yesterday he did a lot of decent work. His problem is his decision making and that is something best developed by playing games. My worry for him is that he's not good enough at the minute to really be a first teamer for us and after this season he'll struggle to get games.

I really think it is a shame he hasn't had an extended loan spell somewhere. DM is a very specialised position and being moved about in the reserves and not getting real competitive games under his belt seems to be counting against him now.
