Great player to have at the club. He's probably cost the club in total what some of his teammates while earn over the summer sitting scratching their balls.

A lot of people saying Spearing isn’t good enough for a top team. Had me wondering as I thought he was excellent playing with Lucas last year and we had some brilliant results, enough to challenge for a top 4 spot. He’s played in most of our cup games this year when again we’ve put in some excellent performances so I’ve compared results for when he’s started with Adam. (The ones in bold and underlined are with Adam in the team)

With him he's had 2 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats.

This is how he always plays/played. Whether is its with the seniors or the reserves. The fact its coming as a surprise to most of us is probably why we've done so badly this season. Sorry not having a dig at anyone, but he should have been a mainstay in our midfield from a long way back.

He played well today, but lets not get carried away

Spearing is proving to be a steady player, but a long way to go.

It worked well with Lucas last year as they allowed the 4 ahead of them to get on with things and create. The likes of Maxi & Kuyt, Suarez etc had little defensive responsibilities as Spearing & Lucas cleaned up for them.

He works well with Stevie as he does the majority of the donkey work and let's Stevie get involved further forward. But Stevie has the pace to get back if needed and of course gets stuck in when needed.

But it doesn't work with Charlie Adam. It doesn't work because neither player is particularly great.

Spearing is no Lucas and can't cover the back on his own. Adam is no Gerrard and can't mix the defence with attack.

Adam & Spearing fail together because they are both average in terms of being a top level player. Adam was fine with Lucas who covered his arse, Spearing can't do that & of course Gerrard is not going to be deployed in a Lucas role.

To me Spearing works with Lucas & Gerrard. Adam works only with Lucas.

I like Charlie, but I think Spearing is proving to be a more usefull squad player than Adam.

I was a bit apprehensive about him but I think he is now a more than useful squad player.

One of his main attributes at the reserve level was his game intelligence. All the coaches used to praise his mentality. I think he is slowly transferring that to the PL level now.

Ahead of who?

I'm a Henderson fan and think he will be great for us next season. I also understand KK's decision to play him centrally more than he's deserved in his first season (to allow him to gel, etc). However, Spearing has been better than Adam and Henderson every time he's played and not having him there for either player has cost us games.

With Lucas being out so early in the season, it only took a handful of games to realise Spearing was needed a lot sooner. Hindsight and all that I guess.
