He had an unbelievable spell in the side in the 2nd half of last season alongside Lucas which forced me and others to revise my opinion of him. It appears it was a flash in the pan and he's every bit as **** as we thought.

Lucas must be some sort of genius, he's made both Spearing and Adam look good.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

It would be great if we gave a young player a chance in a position they had been trained up for though. It's clear that Spearing has been thought of as a more general midfielder and is now being somewhat exposed.
More likely to be a wifebeater alas

I think a big part of that though is that it allows both those to play in their most natural roles. Neither are bad players IMO (although I have real issues with how Adam impact the way we play).

I don't have the stats to back this up but Spearing's great strength is his short range passing.

The rest of his game doesn't stand up that well for a premiership footballer however. Mascherano proves that a little lad can play centre midfield but he needs to be fast, strong tackler, with an amazing engine, sadly Spearing doesn't have any of that.

I'm worried of the fact that a lot of people are overrating him because of his size and how he has overcome this barrier to get there etc. I think even the press have jumped on the Jay Spearing bandwagon a bit too much at times. I think its better not to get carried away and make him get too big for his boots. I'm sure another manager could easily come in and think OK he's just not good enough for us. I am pleased he has made it thus far but I don't know if he is part of our long term future.

Saw another story for Spearing today. He spends way too much time talking to the press for a player with very little experience.

I don't think he will, he's a decent squad player who will be on relatively low wages, and as someone who came through the youth system will probably be more willing to stick around even if he's not been in the side.

Man Utd have had alot of these types of players that aren't the greatest but can do a job, and over the years it must have saved them a fortune.

That is because they have better quality players to carry them, we don't.

That's true, they have a much stronger first 11, but I don't see the benefit of selling Spearing, the fee we would get and the wages we would save by getting rid of him wouldn't get us a player of similar quality never mind higher quality. IMO he is worth more to us by keeping him than he would be if we sold him.

If Jay is happy on the sidelines I say keep him. If he isn't willing to battle it out with the better quality of players we need to bring in, then tough.

Jay has not delivered enough to prove he can be relied upon to cover for Lucas. None of the squad have.

So bringing in a quality midfielder is a must.

Agree with what you're saying. But if we were to buy a midfielder for the first team and with Lucas coming back, maybe we could sell Spearing for a few quid and promote someone like Coady. That is if the management thinks he's ready to step in once in a while. Also we have Henderson, who clearly is better in a central position, hopefully we can buy some quality wide players and move him inside.

I don't think Coady is ready, I don't watch the reserves but I thought a few people were saying he wasn't going to make it.

I very much doubt we'd get much more than £3-4m for Spearing, so I don't think that selling him makes sense unless we really are strapped for cash.
