Very true. Liverpool's most enduring problem of the last 20 years and it's been no different - so far - under Kenny. I think we're already as high as we can go when for me it's practically guaranteed we'll drop a few clangers of results against ****ty teams between now and season's end. No harm in dreaming though!

      Come on Spurs

I'll prefer Citeh to win, then we are almost certain of 5th. Still in Europe, still attract some players and keep others. Citeh won't lose there next to games if they draw this one!

They'd have to lose one and draw one, or lose both of course. Draw at home to Stoke, defeat away to Bolton? Possible???

Have to see if Spurs can get anything first mind.
          Forwards.......

As expected at the beginning of the season, Spurs to turn into Everton. And hey presto, CL football kills them off just like all the other pretenders.

Next season Spurs will be lucky to finish 6th at best, too many good teams will finish easily above them. The CL dream is over permanently, not just tonight.

I was amazed they didn't really attempt to kick on this year as their owners have very deep pockets. It was clear at the start of the season they needed a top level striker. They only realised come January and even then left it until the last day when they went and bid £30m+ for about three different strikers.

Terrible return from Pav, Defoe and Crouch has cost them big time this year.

I wasn't surprised, as well as many. They were always going to do an Everton specially near the tiring end of the season. The only thing that surprised me was the fact they were still fighting for fourth spot up until tonight.

Were you not suprised they didn't spend a bit of cash on a couple of players? They have the money. Almost smacks of LFC under Rafa. Come 2nd and then instead make money in the summer when it should be getting spent to make the final push.

I know Spurs bought VdV but they needed to spend more. The way this league has gone this year, and after being in a decent spot around January, they could actually have had a crack at winning the thing!

Oh well, it would have been nice to keep the dream alive for the last 2 games even though it was always going to be an extremely remote chance and I considered it an impossible task in January.

Doesn't take anything away from a remarkable campaign post Bodge thanks to The King & his team of coaches.

It means we can tie up 5th place with a win against Spurs.

They spent money (VDV, Peinar, Gallas? Sandro?) but that's about the calibre of players they were really going to attract. It wasn't for want of trying. 'Arry's no Wenger in the market that's for sure. The fact they did so well up to January only made the case for them failing stronger. They were expectedly puffed out.

They paid for Sandro the previous January. Gallas was a free, Pienaar was very cheap as he had six months left. VdV cost about £8m.

In the end Spurs miss out on the CL by minor points difference, I think had they pushed the boat out and brought in a top class striker they'd have 4th wrapped up by now and pushing higher.

They basically came just above City and whilst City spend £150m they spent under £20m. You can guarantee with an extra load of games you'll be behind City come the end of the next season in that case.

                            -------

We could use the above situation for Liverpool as well in most circumstances. If we'd had Kenny from the start we could have said, right we've finished 5th, to rise higher we need to spend better than those above us. Because if the ones above us spend better, they stay above us.

But this season is different, as 5th place or 6th, is a false reading of how good this squad is under Kenny. Since he's been in charge we've been the second best team in the league in terms of concistency, whilst we have beaten the teams above us, other than Arsenal who we drew with.

So whilst we still have to make sure we spend well, we don't have to do a much better job than the teams above us.

Ok, 4th has gone but if we beat Spurs at the weekend and finish 5th then the 2nd half of this season has been a huge success and all the players and backroom staff should be proud of what they've managed to acheive from the position we were in.

It's almost the end of a season which back in December I couldn't wait for it to end, now I want it to continue as I'm back in love with football.

                              Roll on next season!

I think it's very important that everyone will be looking forward to next season and will be starting it with confidence and enthusiasm. Six months ago I was dreading the next game, let alone a whole new season of ****.
