He's still very young and inexperienced, he will make mistakes but he has never looked out of his depth and he has put in some excellent performances.

Seemed to use his elbows quite lot today. If he continues doing that, there will be cards flying in the future.

He was a bit rash on times today & has been poor of late but he is succeeding everyones expectations this season to be fair to him. Whether he is our long term solution i'm not so sure but he definitely is performing in general on a level i didn't think he had in him.

          Jon is doing okay

Needs to keep playing and he will become a key figure

            He suffered first half.

It's like this. He's a decent player. But you saw in Luke Shaw a top class player. I like Flanno, but he either has to improve or we need to look at getting a better player in long term. That's if we are to become a world class side. Either way I'm happy to have him in the squad. Maybe at the start of the season he wouldn't have even been in the squad of this team.
            Forwards.......

He needed protection in the first half but he'll become an excellent player. He doesn't look out of place in this side. Great character.
              Are we winning?

Come on. He is no better than average. He may do a Carragher and be a very solid defender later on in his career, but at the moment he is nothing more than an able fullback, who offers little going forward. We need squad players who you can rely on, but if we are going to challenge for cups and titles, we need players of Johnsons class, and I just don't see that in Flanno.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I think he is an able player, who is still young and will improve, but at the moment I think he is a decent enough squad player. Yes we need another full back of Johnson's quality for LB but IMO Flanagan is a decent enough back up option, if he improves further who knows what he will become.

It will be interesting to see what happens next season when Wisdom gets back, a Wisdom jad been ahead of him last year, to be honest I don't think we expected anything from him.

                    Flanagan: 13 games, 1 goal, 0 assists.

Luke Shaw: 25 games, 0 goals, 1 assist.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Shaw is so overrated, hes probably 4/5th best England left back but because hes 18 everyone's going mad over him

He's a young kid, he's going to go through bad patches, and good ones.

The lads a good footballer, not first choice yet, and I reckon a new LB can be on the cards for the summer. But he's great to have in the squad.

Flanagan has exceeded everybody's expectations of him this season. Going through a sticky patch at moment but he has done a very good job for us.

As for Shaw, he is very talented no doubts but still raw defensively. I think everyone in the Premier League is raving about him but technically he is absolutely superb. For me, he is very similar to Leighton Baines. All actions, technically spot on, very progressive & has a superb delivery.

Shaw is definitely raw defensively but anyone can see he is a talent. I suppose Shaw would get more press than likes of Flanagan as he is more of a modern fullback than Flanno. Two very different styles but both have been good this season.

if we continue to play a fast counter attack game were we soak up the pressure and slaughter teams on the break we need to ensure we are defensively sound.
flannel is a very decent defender, he does chip in with the odd forward runs but i feel he doesnt want to be the one to get caught out by trying to be too offensive. i prefer him to be more solid in his defensive duties.

our attack and fast counter play more than negates the need to have our full backs playing like flying wingers.
like stevie said, if teams want to play two at the back against us... good luck with that
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

He's excellent. Give him another season or two and he'll be one of the best right backs in europe. Guarantee it.

I assume that as this is the Flanagan thread you are talking about him?
