shocked at the turnaround - personally i thought he was a goner - seemed to be the forgotten man and had fallen behind johnson, kelly, wisdom for a right back spot and behind enrique, cissokho for left back

but fair play to him - he kept his head down, worked hard, waited for a 2nd chance, it's come along and he's been class

still on 21, still a lot to learn and improve on but put himself into a great position.

hopefully we sign a top class left back, have a new LB and enrique battling it out there with Johnson as first choice right back and wisdom/flanno pushing for a place - but with the added benefit that wisdom could cover CB and flanno LB, with extra european games as well means that neither will stagnate

It's brilliant having two fullbacks like Flannagan and Johnson who can play both flanks, because in the hands of a tactical mastermind like Rodgers, we can switch up our tactical options, switch around their positions depending on the opponent.

What's times bar the 42nd minute or so when he went to close the ball but it was played past him?
There was a late obstruction he made that was a bit cynical. I was worried that the ref would try to "even" it up at the first opportunity, after Flanagans earlier couple. But the referee was very good for once.

I thought there were a couple of times that two Mancs against one defender (What I mean by "exposed", the right midfielder didn't track back - not a criticism of Flanagan in any way).

The only thing I will say is that Jose Enrique can put in a really good cross, which is very hard to do on your wrong foot (and your good foot come to that). But he does seem to be defensively solid.

I can see the comparison to Carra, but I also remember the criticism he got at fullback as he was almost completely useless past the halfway line. I think the movement across the back line benefitted him and us in the long run though.

I just think its great a local lad can come in and play well. I hope he continues to play well, and progresses, and I think both Wisdom and Kelly were very solid, and their progress has stalled.

Kenny gave him 4 years at 20/25k ish so thats pretty fair I think

I don't really rate Enrique, he frustrates the hell out of me, this may seem a little over the top but were everyone fit I would play Flanagan ahead of both Enrique and Cissokho at LB.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Not over the top at all with Flanno playing the way he is. What's even more encouraging is that Flanno can improve further. You can't the same for Enrique and Cissokho.

No one expected him to slot in like this. No one.

Did he prove us all wrong.

Really hope he makes it with us.

He seemed to support better down the left for some reason. Felt he was a bit exposed a couple of times first half, but the Mancs were crap with it, and second half we defended as well as any Rafa or Houllier team.
Reminds me somewhat of Jonjo and young Steve.

He easily could have been gone after that tackle on Rafael early in 2nd period.

                    Hopefully he'll improve with experience.

Some of us were calling for him to be played at the start of Sep.

On his early form for us and his reserve performances, I'm not surprised at how he's playing now, but considering how his career was going I'm completely shocked to see him come in and make the FB position his own.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Says a lot about his character and mentality to come from being not wanted by any club on loan to starting big games like this.

I think Brendan has praised or commented on Flanno's mentality and dedication before this run of form.

Otherwise he was always either decent or good. Showed some guts also. IMO it would be better if we loaned him out for a season of regular senior football just like with Robinson last year - unless maybe we get an offer that suits a 20 year-old English youth international with PL experience.
