Jesus, time really did stand still at that moment. I still can’t believe that it went wide because from my position it looked in all the way. Those 6 minutes felt much longer than the preceding 180 odd, but so too did the subsequent celebrations.

My biggest regret still to this day is Istanbul. Me and my brother went over to all the home European games that year so naturally would have went to the final at any cost. He already had a holiday booked though so couldn’t make it. I had a mate who went to a few of the games with us and he said he’d go. I got a loan, took a few days off work to sort out arrangements, had a cracking deal for flight, match tickets and even a weeks holiday in Turkey with connecting flights and the cunt pulled out. Absolutely raging, so I naturally blew my money on booze and gambling instead. My other brother then said he would go, so again I got the money up but it was too late to sort and the cash blown in disgust instead.

Because I had an unbeaten record watching us, I was blaming then myself at half-time, convinced we wouldn’t be losing if I was there, thinking I’d have made a difference, ha ha. Still had one of the best nights of my life here that night, but in hindsight I really should have took the chance and headed over on my own. It was a once in a life time experience.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I distinctly remember seeing the 4th official holding up the board to indicate a minimum of 6 minutes added time, and ****ting myself. I then managed to surpass this, by ****ting myself even more when Dudek came for that punch, missed it and the ball sat up for Gudjohnsen, with an unguarded net at his mercy and the knowledge that, should he find it, that would be the away goal to destroy all our dreams and send us packing in the dying seconds of a tie in which we'd never really looked under threat.

Time stood still. Kopite upon Kopite kidded themselves that they couldnt look, and hid behind their hands which they mischeviously could still see through. You could almost hear your own heart beating in the chaos, beating faster than what could ever be considered normal. Worse still, Dudek had not only fluffed his punch, but his landing had taken out one of his defenders. A forlorn looking Jamie Carragher stood on the line, knowing that any precision in Gudjohnsen's shot would render his clearance attempts helpless. And then Gudjohnsen finally executed his shot....

And it went marginally wide of the post, and away to safety. And off to Istanbul, we danced!

It was the most nerve wrecking night ever - those 6 minutes were the longest ever - the YNWA rendition after the game that night will stay with me forever..

          Priceless.

I don't know if I actually took a picture of it or just stared so long, but that image of the scoreboard at the end will forever be etched in my memory. I used to hate the ****ty thing before that, thought it looked pathetic, but seeing it always reminds me of that night now.

That clip brings it all back. For our team back then, to overcome the millionaires of Chelsea, was something incredible. Truly a 'where were you?' moment

              Don't remind me...

I missed out on free tickets for that one because I wasn't in work. They went to a woman who went because she fancied Jose Mourinho. She took her boyfriend to impress him.

This thread has made me watch highlights of the final first time in ages.

Looking back, every time the ball drops to Schevchenko in extra time, I am sure he can't miss. How the **** did Dudek save that. It still astonishes me.

I'm not religious but I do think there was some sort of divine intervention at work. It's simply unexplainable otherwise.
