Ludicrously underrated by the casual football fan/non LFC supporter.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

We could do with a young Macca in the side now!

Some morons write him off because of the contract run down...

Its easy to forget how good he was, he was a superstar when you look back at his career (apart from the Man City version...)

I supported him after he left even though I'm no fan of Real. He was fantastic over there as well.

I never had all that much of an isue with the way he left. No compared to the likes of Owen and Torres anyway. As I remember it we tried to sell him the season before. And its not like we were really challenging for much at the time, couldn't massively begrudge the lad moving to Real when he did.

Yup. Although Real Madrid fans probably remember him quite fondly, sign of what a good footballer he really was the way he changed his game and formed a cracking partnership there with Redondo in midfield.

He was a great player, him and Fowler carried us through the 90's. We probably depended on McManaman more than Fowler there was the 'stop McManaman and you stop Liverpool' thing for a while.

The only thing that lowers him in our memories is the way he left - he was probably the first high profile Bosman transfer, IIRC there were reports the year before he left that we'd sell him to Barcelona for £12m
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The best out and out winger the last 20 years in the PL together with Giggs IMO.

Still laugh when I watch old games with him in team when the opposition player that marked him had to be subbed in game after game.

His hard work is one thing you easily forget. I won't say that he worked as hard as Kuyt but not much difference.

I remember reading that the Barca link was a device for them to engineer the Rivaldo signing. They got Rivaldo in a similair way to the way they used Beckham as a device to sign Ronaldinho as well, unless my memory is mashed.

my favorite player growing up in the 90's, such a fantastic winger that could beat a man, create chances for the team and himself.

I don't hold anything against him, he was a great player for us and it would be great to see the likes of him again for us!

Yep, Macca put in the hard work...i was only a youngun when he was in his pomp but i remember him running all over the place trying to make things happen for us, and grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck.

It's a wonder he never really set the world alight on the International stage too, but he was a genius on the ball. Destroyed full backs up and down the country.

Shame the way it ended for him at LFC.

Always thought he was a bit of a headless chicken but had a great last couple of seasons with us. Seemed to be the go to person every time we were on the attack which was a good and bad thing at times.

He was my first Anfield hero.

I really liked him and was totally gutted when he went to Real.

He didn't really play as a winger much for us he was essantially given a free role in a 3-5-2 (wing back system) when he was at his best. I think he struggled with England because he had less freedom, also he wasn't (usually) playing with Fowler for England, people used to talk about the understanding between Gerrard and Torres, but the understanding between McManaman and Fowler was amazing!
